George H W Bush: "Proud to be an Aggie"
HAHAHAHAHAHA

Just watching the A&M v. SMU game... and they just ahd one of those university commercials. UT's is GREAT.

But the A&M one is hilarious. It features GHWBush saying, 'Proud to be an Aggie', all smiles. hahahahahaha. First of all, other than putting his library there, what the hell kind of connection does he have to A&M (Yalie! Yalie!). Second, that commercial will make the non-Bushbots NEVER want to go there. Talk about preaching to the choir. Only salivating RWers would like that commercial. But I bet they are all at home now, mesmerized, drooling in front of the screen, hearts about to burst with pride.

hahahahahaha

he just screams aggies to me.

Short pants no scrunch, cowboy boots with no manure on them, afraid of livestock and a cowboy hat that is sweat and dust free and does not match his boots. Yup, aggie.

Edit I just saw the HW, sorry, wrong cowboy

Yes - HW. I think even the Aggies know that, to the general public, W would be too divisive a spokesman.

But I found it hilarious and totally spot-on re: A&M's target audience. If UT did that, there would be a mass riot on campus. hahahaha. We should get that talking, joke-telling LBJ automaton to do a commercial for us. He could tell Aggie jokes.

Sorry, I just make myself chuckle.

32. "If only it had been that easy to shut him up in the Sixties," I said.
HA HA

I can't remember exactly but one of my Aunts sisters was married to one of LBJ's brothers (I think he had a brother Sam?) I can't entirely recall the story. He was not a popular man with my family so nobody spoke of it much. I do remember hearing stories like the ones told in your link. He was not well liked for many reasons but partially it was from the stories of the sister.

38. He is fascinating
in many ways. I once saw a really good documentary on him but as usual, I fell asleep and remember only a little bit of it....hazard of being a narcoleptic.

Maybe one of these days I can get with my Aunt and find out stuff. She is a big fundie so I kind of stay away but she is also a good woman and I would really like to know more.

Apparently he would stop at nothing to win. I would love to read that too. I should order one, it would be interesting.

I am cracking up at the thought of an animatronic LBJ that comes to life when you plunk your ass down in a chair. Seems appropriate doesn't it?

just wrong instrument. It is a clarinet, the instrument I play. Those are the keys done in a stylized manner, not writing or letters. Don't feel slow, you are about the 100th person to ask that.

I'm glad I didn't see the commercial.

People forget that Lyle Lovett, Henry Cisneros, and John Sharp (all liberals) went to A&M too. But don't hold your breath in seeing them in a commercial or having a dorm named after them anytime soon.

And feel free to donate to the Aggie Democrats! They're in the belly of the beast in B/CS.

I REALLY want to avoid the rat race, but not sure how. So I am taking some time out (having just returned from living abroad for four years, ending a long relationship, etc., etc.).

I just know I need to be in Austin. But that I can't afford to live there as a waitress. Not with my student loan repayments.

Good luck to you - I would rather be in East Texas than College Station, that's for sure. Were you HIGH when you thought that would be a good idea?

Even if you were a 2-per when you attended.

If you didn't attend A&M you can NEVER appreciate it. It is much like having gone to Catholic School in the late 1950's.

Everyone can tell stories they've heard, but you had to live the experience. As a grad student I don't really get to claim I'm an Aggie.

Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 04:22 PM by StellaBlue
1. A&M has 50x more students.

2. A&M has few black students outside the athletics dept.

3. A&M has no art department.

4. My hometown, population 25,000, has more cultural activities and better landscaping.

I never understood why ANYONE would voluntarily go there, or what it is they are so excited about. A lot like the GOP.

43. I am a current Aggie grad student
in the Wildlife and Fisheries Dept. I am only part-time as I have a fulltime job in Corpus Christi so I am rarely on campus and get to miss a lot of stuff. But it has a really good program in my field. ANd it is very interesting but you can tell the wildlife folks from the fisheries folks very easily. The wildlife types (and I am generalizing broadly here) are corn-fed, frat boy types (you basic stereotypical Aggie) and the fisheries folks are not (a lot of the guys have long hair and most people wear Teva's and there is a high percentage of women in the fisheries program). But the university is more diverse than it usually gets credit for being. The town, however, is a lost cause, university or no university.

That was when I went to a party freshman year.

And I woke up, in my friend's boyfriend's apartment, with a pistol next to my head. Seriously.

In Austin you might wake up with a bong or something next to your head, but not a PISTOL, for Christ's sake. It was wild.

But that was the night we discovered Wesley Willis, so it wasn't all a loss.

Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 04:09 PM by cory817
Has it been decided yet where * will have his library, with UT and A&M already gone to LBJ and Bush Sr and those being the two prominent public Texas Universities. I'm guessing SMU it fits his drunken spoiled frat boy persona. I think the next largest public school would be Texas Tech or maybe one of the UT branches like UT Arlington/ElPaso/SanAntonio.
Maybe he'll buck the library trend and go for something involving less reading.
