Call out to all of our savvy graphics gurus to provide your fellow protest-ready DUers with some great materials to print up and put on posters for NEXT WEEKEND'S PROTEST!!! I have seen incredible work here!

Instructions/tips for printing (for the less graphic savvy folks like me) would also be welcome!!!

2. Sign Making Tips

Use old election yard signs (with the stick still attached) spray painted white for a start.

Be sure to let them dry overnight after you paint them.

Use pen, pencil, and magic marker for giving you some idea of where to place the letters on your sign, but are far too wimpy for the final product.

If you mess up with the pencil, you just spray paint over it and start again.

You need cans of paint and brushes for doing those final letters, otherwise they won't be seen on your sign.

If your sign's surface is a neuteral shade (such as pink) you should outline your letters, if you want them to be seen.

Outline white letters with black, or black letters with white.

Another possible way of putting letters on your sign involves glitter and glue.

After you've done your outline in pencil, draw your letters in Elmer's Glue.

Then sprinkle on the glitter.

It will stick to the glue.

Leave it sit for a few minutes, then dump off the excess glitter.

Silver sparkles work well with a dark background, red or blue spankles with a light one.

If you repete this process over several days, you can get many colors of glitter on one sign.

This works well to outline letters with alternating colors of glitter.

I saw at some protests which was shown in Fahrenheit 9/11 was the "LORD HELP US" sign.

TIPS:

When I want to go cheap and easy, I use a program I downloaded called ace poster.

It is extremely easy to use. You just select the graphic (saved to your drive) and type in the dimensions. It prints in sections and you just trim and tape up on some poster board or similar stuff.

They come out very nice...
