Republicans you actually like?
I know this is a hard question for some DUer's but, I have a couple of people I like.

Former Rep. Connie Morella (she was a RINO though)
Rep. Joann Emerson (only because she supported stem cell research going against the administration)

He was a truly liberal Republican and the best governor Michigan's had in my lifetime, along with G Mennen "Soapy" Williams (1950-61), who I don't remember as governor (I'll be 49 on October 4).

Specter, the man most responsible for the JFK Assassination cover-up. Chief Counsel for the Warren Commission. Inventor (in full sense of the word) of the Single Bullet Theory.

"To say that President Kennedy and Governor Connelly were hit by separate bullets is synonymous with saying that there was more than one assassin." - Arlan Specter 1967.

Actually there are a few libertarians which I agree with about half of the time (when they're talking about personal freedoms at least - I couldn't disagree more when they go into economics), but other than that I really can't think of any. Hell, I don't really like a lot of dems for that matter, as I'm probably farther left than most. =P

was the late Governor Jay Hammond of Alaska who passed away just a few weeks ago. He was truly a man of the people, with a big heart, a quick wit, and the generosity and foresight to set up the Alaska Permanent Fund so that the state's oil wealth would be distributed to all Alaskans, not just the ones at the top. I think every Alaskan was sad the day he died.

30. John McCain, Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snow, and William Weld
I can respect and/or tolerate these republicans. One note on William Weld, I always thought he was a pretty good guy, one of those classic old-school republicans. In some respects he was a good counter balance to the all Democrat/all the time Mass legislature who sometimes need a good kick in the ass. I actually think he would make a good Dem albeit a conservative one. His biggest problem is that he seems to get board easily and that hurt him in Mass. I think that New Yorkers are probably already on to him with respect to this.

I admire him for actually standing up for what he believes, and does not seem to care about polls or what his GOP cohorts think of him. Yes, Graham *is* rightwing on many issues, but at least I know in my heart, he is not bought and sold by the corpora-terrorists and/or the Bush regime.

Since he has integrity, maybe someday, he will change his viewpoints on some of the cultural issues.

But he reminds me of the days when conservatives were reasonable, and made logical arguments with facts.

so I won't go so far as saying that I "like" any gop hack. I have no warm feelings of tolerance towards any gop politician.

As far as I'm concerned, if the Democrats can sway any of these neocon lightweights to block their neocon brethren, congrats to the Dems.

Lots of you know about the mess our Governor's race turned out to be this last election. Reed was getting a lot of pressure from the neocon's to find things wrong with the Dems but not with the Repugs. He refused to fold -- doing his job is more important than pleasing the members of his team. He's not a "party before the people" kind of guy.

I may not agree with him often politically, but I've always felt he was a man of honor who stands for his belief system...not necessarily the party's.

The fact anybody would have an "R" after his or her name given the extremism of the party makes me automatically distrust them.
