9. CNN is currently airing a show called |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 07:41 PM by Be Brave
A Global Summit, with President Clinton. It is moderated by Christiane Amanpour. The panel is discussing how to eliminate extreme poverty from the world. It has a high-powered panel consisting of Clinton, Bono, Queen Rania, the nobel prize winner environmentalist lady from Africa (Wangari Maathai), and others. Unfortunately, Wolfowitz is also in the panel. Even the audience is high-powered. I saw Ted Turner in the audience.
The most compelling thing I have heard so far is Clinton saying over and over again that "we know how to eliminate poverty." It's the funding, implementation, and government accountability that's the hard part.

I'd love to see a global summit on climate change too, with the same players (minus Wolfowitz).

"It's a disaster waiting to happen," according to Clinton.
Also discussing Islamic extremism.

I watched a few minutes of it. The minute I heard Wolfowitz though I flipped it. Ugh. It's sad it took something like this for people to talk about poverty but with the GOP running the show nothing will get done.

10. Why do you hate America? |
|
No, seriously, I don't have cable either. It's funny, my parents never got cable, I nagged them about it a bit when I was younger, especially when one ad campaign for cable used the tag-line "Cable: It's A Part of Life." But then, ever since I moved out and have lived on my own, I have never opted to pay for cable myself either! Maybe it's a good thing I never married, so the clearly inherited non-cable dysfunctionality won't be passed on to another generation. On the other hand, my sister DID marry and has a young child - and they are still a cable-free household too. Of course, the child is only 4 years old at this point. Let her get a bit older, and she may force it on them. We shall see!

not that I missed much ;-). Now I have a TV, but it only receives a few fuzzy channels. I mostly use it for watching DVDs.

16. Interesting that your non-cableness also is a family trait. |
|
I like to catch some cable now and then though -- one of the pleasures of the occasional hotel/motel stay, in addition to hot baths that can be filled in a minute or two, is a chance to catch up a little on all those hundreds of channels. Nice for cultural-awareness purposes, but I don't need it in my home!

Now days they have dvds you can buy and they have a good price of players. My mom earlier this month saw a player with a vcr with it for sixty bucks and you can buy tv shows and movies. :) So you don't have to necessarily have cable.

Clinton's global summit discussion is on CNN right now. They're talking about eradicating poverty around the world. It's a very good discussion with solutions.

I feel that that the Clinton summit discussion even with Wolfie is just so important speaking about poverty and linked to business system...ie. Wolfie and environment.

It does get a bit annoying when someone makes a post and isn't very specific in it when it's something like that. Why not just tell? You're going to have to anyways.

Clinton delivering a powerful speech before assembled world dignitaries would be too much for Neocons to stomach.
