Did anyone else hear about Rice being verbally abused by rich New Yorkers?
I was listening to This Week In Tech and they mentioned that people were yelling at her when she came in to buy shoes. Apparently she had to be saved by the secret service.

That makes me laugh my ass off.

I wish I could have seen it.

She'll damn well shop as she pleases. Who cares if the Gulf Coast is being destroyed. She has other priorities.

32. Thirty years ago, they made very comfortable shoes.
Extremely comfortable. But they weren't $1,000 a pair then.

11. LOL, agent Mike has strongly suggested I stay away from those situations
because he knows I lack the composure that Dr. Ben Marble exhibited. I think Agent Mike is right, any confrontation I would have would escalate beyond what I had envisioned in a New York minute.

He's now posting on DU! I forget his screenname, but it's definitely Dr. (something) ... like "Dr. O" or ??? Anyone remember?

Anyway, here's one link about it:

4. I hear it was a New Yorker buying shoes who yelled. They didn't
say anything about rich or class. Just a person. Angry that she was buying shoes when people in NOLA & elsewhere were dying of thirst and neglect in hospitals & the like.

Could have been Carrie or Samantha or Mr. Big. Don't know. Just a new yorker who couldn't believe she was shoe shopping.

10. I'm gonna go ahead and assume that we pay a pretty penny for Rice's new
shoes, so anyone that has enough money to buy a pair of shoes from that store has more cash than most.

Rice had the other patron thrown out so she could continue her shopping spree.

Ms. Rice was asked by a fellow shopper as to why she should be shopping shoes while NO flooded. Condi had them tossed out of the store.

13. It takes a lot of stones...
to be shoe shopping in presumably an expensive store (Ferragamo's, or so I hear) and to yell at someone else for doing the same. Not that Rice was in the right, but the comment did come from someone else doing the same thing.

27. I don't think the customer would have yelled at a member
of the President's cabinet for shoe shopping were it not for the fact that our country was obviously facing a crisis and presumably Ms. Rice should have been concerned enough to get back to Washington and see if she could be of any assistance.

28. Condoleeza Rice is a cabinet member in Dubya's administration
Shopping for shoes while the US loses a major city. I think she has more call to be on hand and NOT shoppping than the other shopper, who rightly pointed this out? What are you smoking?

36. What am I smoking?
She's the secretary of State, not the head of FEMA, Homeland security, Health and Human Services, etc... Would it be better if she went down there to make a speech or stage a photo-op? As we've seen from the other ass hats, that doesn't really help anyone. Bush has already rebuked most foreign offers for help anyway, so what exactly is she supposed to do? It's not that don't I think it's incredibly insensitive, but her official role in this is limited at best. If someone wants to complain to her about something, how about Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur, or the US's piss poor relationship with almost every other country in the world, but I don't think that hurricane relief is really her arena. For someone who seems to care so much about the relief effort, you might think this woman would do better to donate the money she was presumably planning to spend on shoes to disaster relief. But that's just my opinion.

8. New York Daily news article on Condi vacationing while Katrina hit
Like President Bush, the Secretary of State has been on vacation during the Hurricane Katrina crisis, with Rice enjoying her downtime in New York Wednesday and yesterday. The cabinet member's responsibilities are usually international, but her timing contributed to the "fiddling while Rome burns" impression given by her boss during the disaster, which may have claimed thousands of lives.

On Wednesday night, Secretary Rice was booed by some audience members at "Spamalot!," the Monty Python musical at the Shubert, when the lights went up after the performance.

Yesterday, Rice went shopping at Ferragamo on Fifth Ave. According to the Web site www.Gawker.com, the 50-year-old bought "several thousand dollars' worth of shoes" at the pricey leather-goods boutique.

A fellow shopper shouted, "How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!" - presumably referring to Louisiana and Mississippi.

Nice, why on earth would she think she is welcome at a Python Show?

Every single member of the group has written about their hatred for Bushco.

Eric Idle's song, "Fuck you, very much, the FCC" is my favorite piece.

The entire Bush administration, including Bush, was out on Vacation, it wasn’t just poor Condi. Condi really needed those $1,000 pumps too because she had an empty spot in one of her massive shoe closets. Hey, they don’t call her Imelda for nothing ya know.

They certainly didn't want it shortened by the washout of a democratic major city. They had other priorities, like Condi's new shoes.
