LET'S DU THIS: MAKE SURE HUGE EFFORT RE- 9/24 HAS GREATEST IMPACT
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 04:04 AM by snot
We have a huge protest coming up just LESS THAN A WEEK FROM NOW: 9/24.

A lot of folks are putting their whole hearts, bodies, and financial wherewithal into getting themselves to this protest.

We MUST make this effort count. We know that most protests to-date have been largely, successfully contained and ignored. We need to do all we can to prevent that from happening this time.

We've got a lot on our plate, but I think we should consider focussing extraordinary effort on supporting this protest in whatever ways we can.

Let's pick THREE THINGS--that's all most folks can handle--and BLAST OUR REPRESENTATIVES AND THE MEDIA ABOUT THEM.

WE NEED TO FORMULATE OUR MESSAGE NOW AND START BLASTING EVERYONE NOW, REPEATEDLY.

I'm no talent re- marketing; but my 3 things would be, PLEASE COVER/PAY ATTENTION TO THIS PROTEST BECAUSE:

1. The neocons lied us into Iraq. (I don't want to restrict it to Bush, bec. he's history; it's those with the brains and $$$ that scare me.) IMPEACH WHOEVER'S RUNNING BUSH.

2. The neocons own voting--ELECTION REFORM. We really also need campaign reform, but for now I'd like to PLEASE just get past having our elections controlled by corrupt neocon corporations.

3. The neocons own the media--MEDIA REFORM.

Please think v. seriously about this and add your best thoughts, and pls kick & nom. This is something we need to reach agreement on a.s.a.p.

And then get ready to start BLASTING EVERYONE!

We canNOT sit back and let another giant protest be wasted! I'm concerned because so far I'm hearing virtually nothing about this protest.

PLEASE COMMIT TO BLASTING EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK OF, GOV. AND MEDIA AND FRIENDS, AND SHOWING UP AT EVERY PROTEST YOU CAN!

And post any other ideas you have for making this protest as effective as possible!

Thank you, my darlings!

Pls kick and nom this if you think helpful.

PS, if anyone could use a graphic re- election reform, here's one:

How about re-stating that as a message to send to media and reps that will refer to the protest?

Right now, I'm thinking we should start blasting them, and have a set of clear, at least semi-coordinated talking-points that we can attribute or link to the protest.

I mean like, Gentlemen and Ladies, On 9/24, I believe there may take place perhaps the largest protest in U.S. history. I understand the protest will assert the following, with which I concur:

(1, 2 & 3)

Please cover this protest. I will be wondering if you don't. Sincerely, your friendly neighborhood LIBERAL. or whatever.

There are many Cities having Rallys and Marches 9/24.

10. Better suggestion: Rage Against the Machine
This may get this thread locked, but if I walked into a voting booth and saw a Diebold black box machine I would smash the thing without hesitation. I have considered this possibility for a while. I would gladly do some jail time rather than submit. Others, many others, have done greater deeds to ensure our right to a fair vote.

If we can thousands of liberals across the country to do the same. To make sure that every voting machine in every precinct is destroyed at one point during election day.

13. I'm all over the media reform aspect.
Part of that is recognizing WE have to be the media now. I always take plenty of photos and not only post the best on DU, but send them out to my entire email distribution list, even to my neocon family members. They conservatives don't have to open my emails, and when they do, it always pisses them off--but they can't deny the photos, the sheer numbers of people in the photos. And why do they get pissed off, really? Because my photographic proof makes them face the reality that * is a divider not a uniter. If they get mad, it's because they know they're seeing the truth and they're refusing to be set free.

15. My wife and I will be in DC...
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 09:34 AM by KerryOn
I agree 100% that this should not be restricted to Bush. The entire administration is GUILTY of lying to us. Chaney, Rice, Powell and others.

I plan on writing a few letters to the editors of local papers before we leave for DC on the 23rd.

Any suggestions on protest signs? I'm thinking of something simple like:

STOP the Corruption!
or
STOP the Lies!

I'm concerned about the lack of interest and posts on this subject here at DU, although my hunch is that there is going to be a very large turn out in DC.

Kicked.

It should be easier to get MSM coverage of this rally than in the past; Bush's numbers are in the toilet and a majority of Americans think Iraq was a BIG mistake. We just have tos how a little initiative and ask 'em all to cover this though.

In your emails, just talk about the above points. Most Americans agree with us, so point it out and watch the media follow its bottom line!

18. Need a Bush Iraq War quote for flyer I am making for 9/24...
Need Bush saying something demonstratively wrong and at odds with the quotes I have from Clark, Goss, Odin and Army War College.

Bush:
I think about Iraq every day -- every single
day, because I understand we have troops
in harm's way. And so, you know, I think
about this every day -- every single day --
and will continue thinking about it. 06/20/05

I'm not the expert on how the Iraqi people
think, because I live in America, where it's
nice and safe and secure. 09/23/04

Wes Clark:

We are not going to win the War on Terror
just by killing people abroad, even if they
are terrorists. It's not enough.... It's not like
we can single out, if we could just kill, it's
not World War II where there were certain
number of enemy formations, or factories
to produce aircraft and once you eliminated
these you could be pretty sure that the situ-
ation would appear different to the enemy
leadership. This is not that kind of a conflict.

When we kill people, we make enemies!
And when we kill the wrong people, it's
even worse and less defensible. 09/06/05

Porter Goss:

Islamic extremists are exploiting the Iraqi conflict to recruit new anti-U.S. jihadists. These
jihadists who survive will leave Iraq experienced and focused on acts of urban terrorism.
They represent a potential pool of contacts to build transnational terrorist cells, groups and
networks in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other countries.

Strategic Studies Institute of the Army War College

"Of particular concern has been the conflation of al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein's Iraq as a
single, undifferentiated terrorist threat. This was a strategic error of the first order because it
ignored critical differences between the two in character, threat level and susceptibility to U.S.
deterrence and military action. The result has been an unnecessary preventive war of choice
against a deterred Iraq that has created a new front in the Middle East for Islamic terrorism and
diverted attention and resources away from securing the American homeland against further
assault by an undeterrable al-Qaeda.”

General William Odom

“ is far graver than Vietnam. There wasn't as much at stake strategically, though
in both cases we mindlessly went ahead with the war that was not constructive for
US aims. But now we're in a region far more volatile, and we're in much worse shape
with our allies.”

WILL MAKE PDF AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD AND DISTRIBUTION ON SEPT. 24 NATIONWIDE
