Invasion of Syria? Oh shit. Just say no, please.
http://tinyurl.com/7lh9w

From Huffington.com, Our Ambassador to Iraq predicts that we will be invading Syria shortly to stop "insurgents" from causing problems in Iraq. This bodes very poorly for our country.

Juan Cole says today that the Mayor of Baghdad declared an emergency because most of the city is now under insurgent control. Only the Green Zone remains in US hands. That means despite 2000 US deaths, 20,000 Iraqi casualties, 18,000 seriously injured US soldiers, and all we have to show for it is a rolled up poster from an aircraft carrier, a green zone in the bunker (too many missiles falling daily) and a total lack of success.

did anyone hear even a peep about this today on MSM? Either the sudden martial law in Baghdad or the invasion of Syria? My gawd, this is insane!

If we invade Syria, I predict world war shortly. Then entire arab region will rise up in protest against us. godammittohell.

1. Not world war...
Just the slaughter of all of our troops in the region.

12. They'll start popping off nukes all over the Middle East
before they'll admit defeat, and that's what'll bring on the world war. These reality-denying, Straussian Neocon lunatics scare me more than anybody I can remember.

19. This is my fear, too
And a LOT of Americans would go along with it.

My dad keeps saying that if "X, Y or Z happens" we will "have to nuke 'em".

:nuke: :scared:

6. No worries, who they gonna send - Blackwater? CACI?
They are so close to being out of cannon fodder it's embarrassing. Recruiting is so bleak, the above fact can't even be covered up. Only the FOX commentators can say "Every thing's fine" with a straight face.

Nope, no cannon fodder, no war with Syria. Thank God!

21. No draft
Because

1. There would be a huge student revolt. There are many, many thousands who are smart enough and know enough history to realize they are mere cannon fodder for the oligarchy. And they would refuse. Go to jail. Go to Canada. Riot. Etc. I am talking about my generation (I would say the 20-35 age group).

2. All the RW kids who are so pro-Bush wouldn't be if there was a draft. They're chickenshits just like *. A lot of them would refuse, too.

3. The ones that did get drafted would be incompetent pansies. Upset because there's no Hooters, keg parties, or snow skiing breaks.

4. A huge number of over-the-hill people would also revolt. Like all of the people on DU and the thousands of people we know. And I mean really revolt.

...

Now.... what can WE do to remind the people of the world that a LOT of us are NOT neocons?!?!?!?! I want the Syrian working people to know that I am on THEIR side. Irrespective of religion, culture, history...

7. The entire Arab region cannot seem to get together on one thing
However, Syria has a bunch o' weapons.
They gonna do some killing.
I would not blame them for unleashing everything they got
in response to this unprovoked attack by the US.

13. "Then entire arab region will rise up in protest against us. "
Sorry, but you're wrong. The arabs are: 1) toothless, militarily and politically, 2) never inclined to agree on anything, including "US bad", despite all evidence to the contrary. It's been this way since the '60s and hasn't changed.

Also, us attacking Syria unilaterally will ostensibly send Iran an "object lesson", namely, we can kick your asses and we don't need any stinking UN approval to do it.

The neocons have been planning this as the follow-on to the Iraq invasion from day 1. They're a country that Israel hates, they can't defend themselves against us, and they're one more arab country that will represent a notch on W's gun. In other words, they're a perfect target. I think that Venzuela would put up much more of a fight than Syria so that moves Syria to the top of our "hit list". :(
