TX priest potentially exposes children to HIV in bizarre Mass incident
Words were not enough for the Rev. Arthur Michalka to impress upon his parishioners the pain Jesus suffered during crucifixion.

So on Wednesday, during evening Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Corn Hill, he called about 15 children to come forward so he could prick their palms with an unsterilized pin.

"What I was trying to teach them is that suffering is a part of life," said Michalka, 78, on Friday.

<snip>

"What were you thinking?" said Debbie Sybert, a Jarrell resident whose 11-year-old daughter, Amanda, was pricked during Mass. "Apparently our father has lost his mind."

Makes you wonder if the priest was trying to find a way to "poke" kids that doesn't involve sexual abuse. Meanwhile, the Church is getting ready for a "witch hunt" of gays in U.S. seminaries, but apparently the headcase ones can stay.

3. sensationalistic headline
The kids haven't been tested yet so no one knows if any of them had AIDS.

Still, dumb.

5. What a sick-o.

Doesn't surprise me though -- except that he thought he could get away with using children as pin cushions.

Years ago a priest at our Southern California parish went on in great detail about how the chalice he used at mass had little prongs on the bottom which pricked his hand to remind him of Christ's suffering. I thought he was just weird.

Later on he was assigned to a different parish where he began an affair with the married choir director. She left her husband for him. They married and he's now a defrocked "rent a priest" for weddings and funerals.
