Chávez gets a cheer in the Bronx
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/12676844.htm

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez brought his unique political talents, and views, to the South Bronx.
BY PABLO BACHELET
pbachelet@herald.com

NEW YORK - Clad in dark slacks and his signature red shirt representing his ''Bolivarian revolution,'' Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez took his magnetic charisma to a South Bronx community gathering Saturday -- and the people loved it....

He asked Heidi Hynes, the executive director of the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center if her organization was headquartered nearby. He wanted to know what the kids did, and who Mary Mitchell was. ''And what is your budget?'' he asked....

Chávez turned around and told an aide to take down the name. He instructed the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington to make a donation...

Hynes said her center had been visited by famous athletes but never by a top-level politician. The Bangladeshi ambassador to the United Nations came once. ''We're delighted to be able to host a foreign dignitary in the Bronx,'' she said.

3. Chavez is playing a clever PR game, I think.
With the lower Citgo gas prices and this sort of outreach to America's poor and middle class, he's bringing that "threat of a good example", long dreaded by own corporatists- to the United States itself, rather than just other South American countries. Very wise move, if you ask me.

11. Here's the key difference between Venezuela and the United States.
Both of us have electronic voting. But in Venezuela they have OPEN SOURCE CODE running the machines--that is, anyone may inspect how the votes are being tabulated. Whereas, here, we have Bushite companies tabulating all our votes using SECRET, PROPRIETARY PROGRAMMING CODE.

Open source code = good president.

Secret, proprietary source code = bad president.

It's pretty simple, really.

12. Chavez figured out something that Bush will never know.
If you're looking for the soul of a country, you won't find it behind a gated community. It's also not where you're likely to find a God who is concerned for those who need him the most.

13. The Rev. Jackson said that we are ALL supposed to learn
Spanish. I'd better get busy so I can be in on events like this one in the Bronx:

''They're trying to legalize the imperialist currents,'' he said.
And the Bronx cheered again.

Viva Chavez!

:kick:
