HEATHENS! ATHEISTS! AGNOSTICS! SMITE THEM ALL! KILL KILL KILL! |

"How dare they, in this day and age? Cut their funding, immediately! Quick, martha, go hide the kids. Turn on some football, or something, before they are exposed to this vile stuff!"
NOVA - PBS is having a one hour special called "ORIGINS: How Life Began."
Primitive organisms convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, and allow life to flourish on earth. Millions of years ago.

2. I've gotta see this. I love that stuff! |
|
It's so fascinating.
It's hard to comprehend the passage of time on Earth before even this primitive type of life kicked in.

7. Hey, intellectual stimulation is the route to hell, buddy! |

Seriously though, Genesis is not only boring, but incredibly disturbing. It's worth reading just to see what so many people worship, but reading it with an open mind, I just don't see how anyone could.

6. They just gave the recipe for life! |

The religious one, that is,
take a vessel, place dirty clothes inside. Add fresh wheat. store (open) and allow to ferment for 21 days, and presto, you have "created" mice.

9. they were quoting from an ancient religious text. |

then, they went to the most acidic cave they could find, and showed how life thrives even there.
Amino acids that combine and form in heat, energy, light and in the presence of the soup we had here on earth. Slightly more than 6,000 yrs ago.

10. Um, That's MY PBS your talking about. |
|
I donate, I watch, I enjoy, I learn. Last nights Live at Lincoln Center was extrordinary.
Several bricks of my childrens education were carefully laid by their programming. If your going to criticize PBS in a non productive way, expect to take some heat.
Go ahead and beat on Kenneth Tomlinson all you want, Poke at their programming or mission and expect to lose the finger you point with. <chomp>

11. The World didn't start with the Xtians...but they're going to end it. |

I firmly believe that humanity's general lack of intelligence combined with selfish desires over resources and rabid religious ideology spells the END of our existence.
I view organized religion as the problem, not the solution to modern problems. We have enough problems trying to sustain the resources necessary for our continued existence to compound this problem with petty bullshit about "who begat who" and the ascendency/validity of one diety over another.
...plus everyone knows that the world was created by the Flying Spagetti Monster. Ramen.

But, that said, a great program it is! The PBS one, not the brain-damaging neoconman one. RAmen, to you as well.

14. me too, but I am almost religious about being agnostic. |
|
wait. let me rephrase that.
OK, I think that today's modern religions offer opiate-like comfort to non thinkers, they offer solace to sinners, and good feelings to those being willfully ignorant. They also offer huge tax free incomes to those willing to lie, cheat and steal from weaker people who need support, education, love and respect.
