4. I've heard about this movie...looks good! |
|
I'm looking forward to seeing it. I hope this is a realistic portrayal of the ridiculous torment people are still forced to endure thanks to those who believe "traditional" family values are the only ones that count, as opposed to a moralizing "gay men go straight" story.
If it's the latter, I will ask for my money back at the end of the movie.

6. From the looks of the trailer |
|
(did you watch it?) it looks like there is much realistic torment and not so much moralizing.
But it is only the trailer, of course.
I can only imagine the outraged editorials that will be aimed at the "Hollywood Elites" after this.

8. I just went to IMDB and read the synopsis.... |
|
It takes place in 1963, so I imagine it won't be a "happily ever after movie." I'll reserve judgement until I actually see the movie, but if this is another movie where gay characters are portrayed as sad, tormented misfits then I suspect I'll be sorely disappointed.
On the surface, though, I have to admit it looks intruiging.

12. I think the point is that gays were often sad, tormented in the closet & |
|
made misfits by society and their love considered perversions.

14. I'm just questioning why we need a cowboy version of Boys In The Band? |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 07:36 PM by KzooDem
As a gay man, I don't want to go sit through 2 hours of internal gay struggle and self-loathing. I went through that myself and don't need a movie to tell me how difficult it was, and unfortunately still is for far too many people.
I just hope there's a more meaningful overall message in the movie other than "gays live sad, conflicted lives."

18. perhaps some straight people will see it and gain some new perspective on |
|
what it means to be gay in America. That is, after all, what literature, movies, art, etc. are supposed to do. You may not be the target audience for this one, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still have value.

in Calgary. I actually saw the two guys (Heath L. & the other one) in a bar on the 17th Ave strip just down the street from where I worked. If I was only 25 years younger... I would have been an incredible slut w/them <sigh>

The freeper types might go to see this movie expecting some bull riding. LOL, I'm sorry but the visual is too much.
It looks like it might be a good movie; a little on the sad side though. I wish someone would direct movie more on the lines of Queer as Folk. I miss that show:cry:

I've heard a lot about this movie in the last few months. I plan on seeing it as soon as it comes out.
Proulx (?) wrote the story, I believe.

16. I loved Annie Proulx's "The Shipping News" ... |
|
... although Hollywood did the usual dumbing down and cutening up of it.
Her characters are so often sad and tragic things happen to then ... but she has a way of affirming life even in the middle of tragedy.
Normally I never go to a theater to see a film, but this is a case where I'll make an exception ... and bring a couple of boxes of tissues, too.

What the big deal? Lot's of young, viral outdoorsy types like that sort of thing.... :silly:
Just kiddin', but I'm afraid I'm going to skip this one, not my type of movie.
But yeah, it should be fun watching the RW popin' blood vessels and raising hell after they sit though the whole movie with a hard on.
Looks like it could be the Gay Guys "Titanic."
