3. Great news
Now Jon will get to be embarrassed again by all his guest congratulating him. Congrats to the whole Daily Show team. Well deserved. :-)

27. Oh, Jon has the "Aw shucks, you're embarassing me" bit down pat
but look into his eyes, and you can tell it's all he can do to keep from bouncing off the walls!

P.S. Take that, Shill O'Reilly--at least until TDS wins their next Peabody!

6. They are better than the news. When the comedians are the only

ones telling the truth - you really are in trouble. But lucky. Lucky that there is another forum. Lucky that there are experts in their fields. We are very lucky.

And in Canada it is hilarious. The biggest & best canadian late night talk show host was lured by neocons to their network. What did the network do who lost him? (they had tried at Canadian content & done okey with the talk show host do when he was stolen from them?) They got the Daily Show. Now nobody watches anything else.

Poor talk show host. He was a good guy. He did have a following. But he got with neocons and they diminished him.

Same as it always is.

Royal Canadian Air Farce and This Hour has 22 Minutes. I love both of these shows.

that. in this neocon, ultra religious reichwing backwater, I am surprised we actually get the Daily Show (and sue johanson)

14. Jon was smart. When given the choice to join a network - he stuck
with cable and the dominance he had there. So they could not undo him.

Was a time when 25% of the profits of NBC came from Johnny Carson. Money does talk. And for the rare comedian who has the team and the talent to keep talking week by week - that is something a network can survive off of.

13. Yup. We like our politics real. We are not encouraged to be adolescent.
To like adult comedy - you have to be honest with yourself.

Why the GOP puts out Ann Coulter & the like. To teach adolescent humor.

18. In 2003, Global signed comedian Mike Bullard

, host of the nightly ''Open Mike with Mike bullard". Then they had to cancel him because their neocon writers had no sense of humour.

CTV - who he was stolen from and who had nurtured him as Canadian talent - went with Jon Stewart.

And the rest is history.

I couldn't stand the man, I was glad when his show got cancelled.

23. He was the closest thing that Canadian Talk Show talent had produced
in years. The jokes were Canadain. The topical humour canadian. He had talent. Could have used a few more writers. And then they stole him and made him tell lame jokes about liberals & Jean Chretien.

The point is - that is how we got Jon Stewart.

24. Talent, no way
There were 20 people with their own shows on the comedy network who had more talent and better material. His talking with the audience schtick was the most goran-inducing thing I have ever seen on TV. His warm-up guy was more entertaining.

TDS aired on the comedy network before Bullard moved to global, him moving didn't bring TDS to Canada.

It is just a short little story on how neocons in Canada have shot themselves in the feet with their "top down" attempt to control culture.

I am sorry that a canadian talent did not get to develop. Because I like Canadian content. He was as talented as many on network American TV. He started his career late. He could have developed into a fantastic comedian.

But I am still laughing at how wrong that attempt went for the neocon powers that try and control Canadian airways - and thus the culture of youth.

7. They should win one for
best news program!

For being a satirical comedy show, their news has more truth in it than the "real" news.

9. I stream segments from Comedy Central's website and I have to
admit that The Daily Show is probably the funniest show ever. I am amazed by the writing and sense of comedic timing. At the same time I am being amused, I feel really humbled. I couldn't come up with that stuff in a bazillion years! That's what it's like to admire a show.

10. I thought that prerecorded segment was pandering
and so un-Jonly. He had to play like he was a mindless equal-opportunity offender, and not the insightful barbed wit that he is. It was mindless broad brush blather, more like a Carlin or a Maher, than quintessential Stewart. I realize they told him, "This is prime time network TV and not your late night cable show, so you have to pay out in equal time, and you can't tell the truth here." Which took the Jon-ness out of Jon.

16. Naw, he stuck in those comments about "state and local"
officials. Bleeping out the "federal" part was funny. Then he had to give the finger to Dems as well as Repubs. Pandering. He was told he had to insult both parties and all sides if he was going to insult anyone.

22. No, there are some statements of fact here. Not all is opinion.
That's why I was asking. I was wondering if you might have had some inside information that the Emmy producers were telling Stewart to equally hit both sides.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

28. Well, here's the kind of jokes he was doing on TDS:
Jon on the evacuation of New Orleans:

"You can't just rush in there. The federal government can't just usurp the power of the states -- unless New Orleans is in some type of persistent vegetative state..."

"Now for people who are saying, "Let's not point fingers at the president". No, shut up. No. This is inarguably, INARGUABLY, a failure of leadership from the top of the federal government."

"Hurricane Katrina is George Bush's Monica Lewinsky."

Radical difference from his equitable distribution of blame we saw tonight.

Now it's not just my opinion.

21. Yep..
Remember the 2004 elections? He went after Kerry as much as he did Shrubbie. It's just that now it's the Repugs that are providing all the good comedy. It's tragic comedy but TDS can make it funny.
