Suppose you told your shrink that...
you believed a different set of events led to
the destruction of the twin towers on September 11th
2001. And he looked at you like you were fucking
whacked.

What would you do?

8. Gosh if only I could
used to be so active, it's weird I know
but I'm obsessed with these psychopaths.

I think of them at least every 5 minutes
or so.

Still try to be active, but I'm consumed.
Have NEVER been like this before.

7. Seriously, change counselors now.
Find someone who can sit and listen, and be sympathetic even if they don't necessarily agree with your positions. Although, as somebody who stood there on the morning of 9/11 saying "Oh my God, they just imploded the WTC!" I agree it would be nice to find a therapist who actually agrees.

9. Depends
The shrink may believe you are basing your opinion of internal hatreds and angers rather than external facts, so that may be all he was thinking. Or he may be letting political bias enter into his work with you.

I'd find out for sure what his objection was. If it's the former, demonstrate that you believe this based on facts and insights you have thought about, which should reassure him that you are stable but have a different opinion than his.

If it's the latter, he's not good, find another.

11. Not sure he know what to think of me PERIOD!
How does one go about finding the perfect
shrink? Crazy question I know.

I do tend to break all molds.

13. Well, keep in mind
that you don't really want one who just nods and agrees with everything and says "Pay at the counter." Bring it up at the next meeting. Tell him you were troubled by his response and want to know what he meant.

20. good advice...
Question the counsellor again about this, and if he's still telling you to "be quiet about it so you won't estrange others" -- I would get another shrink. He's basically telling you to just shut up about something that is obviously deeply troubling to you and needs to be discussed. He's telling you right off the bat that this subject is taboo. Psychologists need to be people you can discuss taboo subjects with. They should help you manage societal taboos and validate your concerns. Don't let him make you feel loony.

12. kinda funny when telling him that I've alienated lots of

friends and family over the past few years...

he says "Telling them that our own government
was responsible for this might estrange
them."

The only person I've said that to is
my husband, and HIM. I'm still pissed
at myself for not saying this louder
and larger to all that I know.

14. I would much rather hear that than what I heard this past
week. One of my patients told me that "the blacks stayed in NO to loot and then collect fema money". I performed psychotherapy but as you can see, this is a tough line of work.

16. Freud recommended "fantasy" as a healthy alternative to murder
After imagining him going through a long and painful death, I picture him reincarnated as very poor and no longer with a white skin. Then I snap back to work and try to keep in mind that he is filled with self-loathing and is projecting his own shadow. Therapizing is hard work.

I don't care if somebody is telling their shrink about how they make aluminum foil deflector beanies it would still be very unprofessional.

21. I think you're reading too much into his/her expression
but if you are uncomfortable with your psychologist or psychiatrist then you should definitely seek out someone else. However, don't go looking for someone just to reaffirm your own worldview. If you're so obsessed with the right wing that you're literally thinking about them every few minutes, if that is constantly making you unhappy or otherwise interfering with your life then you have a problem.
