It's been 3 weeks, time for another Hurricane evacuation drill |
|
Three weeks ago right now we went outside our secure building to observe the strangeness of being in the eye of a hurricane, we hustled back in after a while and went through about 8 more hours of hell. Now the guy on the radio is saying Hurricane Rita has several possible paths, one which includes the Mississippi and Louisiana gulf coast. We should know in a few days. I guess I'll go chainsaw some more trees.

1. I'm on the Texas Gulf Coast -- waiting right |
|
there with you to hear what it's going to do... I've already started boxing up emergency items, camping stuff, etc., and kind of organizing photos & things in case we need to do a quick pack & evacuate. And of course, keeping the vehicles gassed up. I normally don't worry this much, but of course Katrina has me pretty nervous & all the talk of more big ones to come this year. Crossing my fingers for all of us!!

batten down the hatches, set every thread-bare sail, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. Surrender be damned I have not yet begun to fight and finally I have met the enemy and he is ours.
Good luck Chief.

3. Might as well wait until after hurricane season. Get them all at once. |
|
I'm still chain sawing from the 3 last year. Figure the fire wood will pay off my mortgage and the crafts I make from the wood will supply an income.

4. I don't know what models he's been looking at but... |
|
There's none that I've seen that take it anywhere near Louisiana or Mississippi. Certainly none at the National Hurricane Center.

and on the 10:00 news last night the local weatherman was showing possible paths, in a fan shape from Brownsville to LA. So no one is out of the woods right now. Hubby and I talked last night about getting our act in gear to be prepared.

10. There are several different models projecting tracks |
|
and one of the NHC model tracks from 2am last night does go into Louisiana.
These models require weather data to set initial conditions in the models. Besides being slightly different in their assumptions, some of the models use different sources of weather data to set the initial conditions in order to give faster projection updates.
The bottom line is that 5 day forecasts are not very accurate.

5. I was gonna put the plywood shutters back in the storage shed today. |
|
And then I said "Naw, screw it. Might as well leave 'em out till the season is over." merde
Next Monday we're going to visit our daughter and family in Boston. We'll completely board up before we leave. This crap is getting WAY old.
Good luck to ya, buddy.

11. Maybe we need some color codes for weather terrorism. |
|
You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.
But the resident does.
