Carter & Baker panel recommends Paper Trail Voting and Intn'l Observers
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-09-19-improving-elections_x.htm

Former President Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker, the panel's co-leaders, cited the loss of confidence in a report they were to deliver Monday to President Bush and Congress. Among the commission's recommendations:

• Congress should pass a law requiring voter-verifiable paper audit trails on all electronic voting machines.

• The presidential primary system should be reorganized into four regional primaries, held after the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary. A regional primary would take place each month from March to June.

• All "legitimate domestic and international election observers" should be granted unrestricted access to the election process, within the rules of the election.

3. So what's the BFEE up to now? Anytime James Baker is
involved in anything, I don't just have alarm bells go off, I have air raid sirens sounding.

5. James Baker's granddaughter died in a hot tub, in the kind of
situation that John Edwards might have sued the manufacturer for. Perhaps that changed him. Just perhaps.

6. I think Baker is Alarmed because he realizes....
That if the republicans are doing it now that it'll have explosive consequences when the press asks the question - How did a republican congress with numbers in the mid 30s manage to gain seats?

4. On the other hand, if even Baker admits
that elections look bad and have problems,, then they must stink to high heaven...

11. Conyers is setting up a strawman argument and has nutso bad strategy
Conyers is afraid there will be a fee for photo IDs. This is a straw man argument. It is a legitimate concern, but is not reason for him to reject the panel's recommendations, especially with regard to verifiable paper trails for voting.

this is what I prayed for --- I want Carter to really get involved and I want international overseers, YEP, here in the good old usa, that is what we need.

12. No...we want PAPER BALLOTS...
dammit, when will people get this. "Audit trail" still leaves them wiggle room. Demand a voter verified PAPER BALLOT that is the ballot of record for ALL recounts.

14. I hear you Velma but who is really
listening to the Paper Ballot idea?

People are so into computer "up to date" ideas that they believe that PAPER Ballots are not 21st Century.

I'm with you on this one , but show me the progress so far.
Where are we with the paper ballot locations for 2006?

I want to help, just tell me what to do because no one seems to be getting the message.
