A Freeper Encounter...Their Stupidity Knows No Bounds.
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 01:14 AM by tasteblind
So, I went to the bar tonight to go watch the Skins game with some friends. Of course, first there was the Saints-Giants game, and since no one had much of a stake in that game, the conversation turned to politics.

This guy, who was the spitting image of G. Gordon Liddy, started talking about how the goal of the Iraq war was to eliminate Islamic extremism. We talked about WMD, and he said that was the secondary concern.

We noted that it would've been nice if the people behind it would have mentioned that to us, and he said it was always part of the plan.

We talked about how it was a scam to loot the treasury, and he talked about equating Osama bin Laden to Pat Robertson. Every time we countered him, he moved the goalposts elsewhere.

When we said that fighting Islamic extremism in Iraq was a dumb idea because Iraq was a secular republic, he got angry, and started raising his voice at us, saying that we had to fight them over there in order to keep them from coming over here.

It went on and on and on. There was no sense that could be talked into this man. His wife told him that he was yelling at us, and he felt bad that he had to lower his voice to match the rest of ours.

We talked Katrina. It was the same thing again. We talked about how hard it must have been to get a single truckload of bottled water to the Superdome for five days, and he could only blame local officials.

He decided to liken the imagined struggle against Islamic terrorism to the battle of Normandy, saying that if we left Iraq, it would be the equivalent of not storming the beach against Hitler.

On and on and on and on...

Finally, after what seemed like hours (It was an hour and a half), the Skins-Cowboys game came on. We all joined in bashing our pathetic, beloved Skins' pisspoor efforts to stop or even match the Cowboys' advances on the goal line. He finally left, after bidding us all a pretty friendly farewell.

His friend left first, saying, "It's all well and good, just so long as we all support the troops." I went along with his comment, even though I personally think the troops who volunteer for this military are blindly sacrificing themselves for an unjust cause.

Imagine our shock, when an hour and a half after they left, the Skins picked up two totally unbelievable touchdowns and sucker punched Bill Parcells and Jerry Jones in their jaw on Monday night national tv.

The whole experience left me with two impressions.

1. Some of these people cannot be reasoned with. They have bought it all, hook, line, and sinker, and should not even be debated. It is a wasted effort on the hopelessly insane.

2. At the end of the day, all anyone wants to do is see the Skins kick the shit out of the Cowboys. Eat shit, Cowboy fans.

3. I am at the point where I just laugh at them
I mean, really, they and their arguments are so idiotic that they are just laughable. And yeah, they can piss me off, but in the end, all I can do is laugh. They are not anchored in reality, and while I am quite willing and able to tell the truth, I am not going to waste a lot of energy that is better spent elsewhere arguing with the clowns.

4. I don't watch football, but that was a fascinating exchange
You are quite right about the moving of the goalposts, we see it all the time on the talking head shows. And they do it without shame, too, like they have a right to bullshit you and avoid the argument.

It reminds me of five or six year olds who, at bedtime, desperately try to distract the parents so they might "forget" that it is time for bed!

Of course, the kids are cuter, and certainly not meanspirited...we cannot say the same for these unthinking, selfish cretins.

I find there are 2 or more types of Cool ade consumers

A. The Wannabees, and

Type A are a bit easier to convince than B who tend to be OBSTINATE/ RIGID/DENSE

Why bother coming "over here" they have fucked us up pretty badly so far by staying right in their caves or wherever "they" are, since after years and years we still don't know who "they" are or where "they" are.

12. Finally - a shred of truth. The goal of War on Terror is to stop extremism
So why didn't they bother to plan for that? Too busy looking through the twin eyes of $ $? Too busy laughing at how war would stop the dot com recession? Too busy thinking that as a War President they would have a chance at 7 years of fear to sneak by horrid corporate legislation & sink er in the bathtub?

Too bad that was not one of Rummy's goals.

policy, this guy would begrudgingly agree with us, but come up with some way that Democrats were worse.

Like I said, hopeless and unreasonable.

He mentioned Rush Limbaugh at one point and bit his tongue, seemingly because he sensed that it would prove his complete lack of connection with reality.

He stopped mid-sentence and went elsewhere.

Duck, bob, and weave, suckers, but you can't fight truth.

18. And only if the Giants are out in front!
I had a similar conversation with my brother, a cop from SC and a retired Coastie, today. He spent 9 days in MS, Biloxi and Long Beach, and his opinion is that this whole fiasco is the result of the state and local gov't dropping the ball; FEMA is great, the feds are great, the blivet is great, the looters suck, and everyone is a drug addict. :eyes: I fuckin' give up! And you are correct; they can't be reasoned with, so I didn't even try. I am already not talking to one brother and two 'friends'; at least this brother was there. He did tell me he did his duty by volunteering and he would never do that again.

23. I think my bro listens to too much of Fox, or Rush, or whomever.
Both of them do. I couldn't wait to talk to him because he had been there; someone or persons were feeding him the line that all the affected people in NO and all over were drug addicts.
I didn't dispute that because we can't talk if I voice my opinion; he knows that. Brief conversation, I got a bit stressed, we decided not to go there.

You ever consider just asking leading questions? Sometimes asking the right questions will lead people to seek their own conclusions, and sometimes they are surprised.

27. This 50+ year old man, a cop and retired Coastie, thought
the locals were at fault and would never fault the gov't. My other bro is the same way, and throw a lot of religion into that mix.
My husband is also a retired Coastie, but doesn't drink the kool-aid, though him mom does. I may be a good influence in his instance, considering he is surrounded by *bots at work. As I've said, I've given up; I don't know what it will take to wake them up. Many times n our conversation I wanted to 'go there', but didn't want to make light of his experience or get into an argument.

It reinforces the beliefs of the rest of us, and lets them know that they cannot spout their nonsense in public unchallenged.
