Number of dead in the Gulf Coast...any update?
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:14 AM by BleedingHeartPatriot
All of a sudden, no further reports regarding the number of fatalities suffered on the Gulf Coast.

Has anyone heard anything? Or will we no longer be privy to updated figures? MKJ

edited to make the title less wierd.

1. I heard this morning in MSNBC that it is in the 900s
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:19 AM by mutley_r_us
with 700+ of those coming from LA. I'll see if I can dig up an article. BRB.

Here's one that says 970.

2. remember the tsunami? updates almost daily
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:17 AM by Skittles
I would guess it has something to do with the "atmosphere of fear" in the newsrooms, alluded to by Dan Rather. What other possible reason could there be for no real updates?

3. Just remember to multiply by 10
If you want to see why, check my post "FEMA: What Holocaust?" on wetbankguide.blogspot.com.

An early report from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee indicated that only 10% of the bodies found would be "officially" dead from Katrina.

Malign neglect is not a FEMA-approved storm-related cause of death.

12. what prob can't be made worse by harry lee?
i don't know the quote you cite but i do know that sheriff lee claimed that over 50 dead bodies found in jeff parish were from ppl dead "before" the storm but not yet buried

may well be true of some of them but i doubt it's true of all, lee is not someone whose word is worth dirt in my view

everyone wants to keep the toll down as much as possible to avoid further hysteria

but eventually there will be an accounting & those who lost loved ones are going to expect to see their loved ones' names on the monument

a true & full accounting will take yrs, methinks

4. I've read some reports
that it'll be in the 10's of thousands but they can't allow the number to officially be higher than 3000 because then our governmental incompetance would exceed the deadliness of 9/11. Sounds totally plausible with the thugs in charge.

5. Numbers seem way too low and the corporate masters clearly...
put pressure on the news organizations to lighten up the news by not covering the body recovery process or post numbers of dead.

I believe this is a huge story and have been e-mailing many media outlets venting my utter shock at the "non-reporting" of this. Hopefully others will follow.

Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 08:43 AM by SoCalDem
There are no dead.. There were only flesh-wounds, and the others were just "resting"..or , in the case of the poor folks, they were just pretending to be dead, so they could scam the insurance companies into paying for a free funeral.:sarcasm:

9. I hope this isn't considered a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway
Is it possible that some of the bodies are being pumped out with the water?

11. they are still being counted
current toll as of monday is 973

this includes ZERO so far counted from st. bernard parish where there are an estimated 1000 to 1,500 dead

several other parishes & counties have not yet reported ANY of their dead to the official list

it is going to be a slow process, paperwork is not the priority right now

the final toll will be many thousands, no way getting around it

if you want updated figures, demand them from the media & yr representatives

16. FEMA insisting each body be prayed over before recovery..
Part of the contract dispute between Kenyon and FEMA that led to the slow recovery and the Gov stepping in. No of chaplains available is unknown.
