Gen'l Honore "you all are stuck on stupid"
As reporters are asking about Katrina as they focus on Rita evacuation. Best line I've heard in a long time!!!!

That reporters are obsessed with Katrina?

7. The conference was about Rita evacuation.
Honore's point was this is not the time to discuss JKatrina, you will confuse the evacuees...He wants the people out, not confused. He'll deal with Katrina questions once folks are safe. That was his point.

9. They were trying to tell everyone how to evacuate and they kept asking
why didn't you do this the last time. They are trying to get information out, not critique the problems from before.

13. They did do this last time
and Nagin got 80% of the people out of New Orleans before Bush could even find it on a map.

Glad Honore told them where to stuff it.

6. He is right.
For goodness sake, the storm is coming and time is essential. I understand and appreciate the criticism, but you have to respect his point. A clear message has to get out to the people and that kind of debate now will only muddy the waters. Besides, he is not exactly the person to ask the questions they were asking. Those are better directed to politicians.

12. Reporters basically asking why these actions were not done before.
From what I understood they meant the warning, planning, etc.

17. The Mayor, Gov, Honore were telling people how to evacuate. They
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 04:49 PM by Pirate Smile
have buses at the convention center and troops. They want people to go there and they will bus them out. The buses and troops are there NOW. They will NOT be going inside the Convention Center. In the next 24 hours the Mayor, Gov and Feds will determine any additional plan i.e. picking up people at any other locations within the city to help them evacuate.

The press kept asking "why didn't you do this the last time?" and other questions about the problems from Katrina. He kept telling them they are focusing on how to get people out re Rita and they kept asking about the past. He kept telling the media that they need to help them (the gov't officials) get the correct information out to the people, it was important that everything was clear so people wouldn't be scared to go to the convention center. They need the press to help so people don't panic but the press kept wanting to revisit the earlier problems.

That was the context.

edit to add - two buses have evacuated people from the Convention Center area so far today.

14. Take no prisoners, Honore, just save lives
Too bad the gob'mint didn't see fit to assign him AND the guard before Katrina hit, evacuation of many more may have been accomplished, many more may have lived, despite FEMA dithering.

16. If you were asking stupid questions in the face of a potential
new disaster, too bad for you. Don't interfere with an active evacuation. Cry in your pillow if you don't like the answer, but right now, let's make sure the folks are out!

29. The media just may get around to asking him why 250 NG were holed up in
a section of the N.O.Convention Center and did nothing to help the thousands of evacuees inside.

Last week, Nancy Grace interviewed several convention center survivors who told stories of the horrific events that went on inside. Evacuees were raped, murdered, beaten and terrorized by armed thugs. They begged the National Guard stationed within for help but the NG refused to restore order.

Gen. Honore has likely heard about this disgraceful behavior through his own sources and wants to fade into the background rather than answer specific questions about it.

18. This is one of Honore's standard lines (which I really like!).
When he first rolled into NOLA, some reporters asked him some pointless and annoying questions and he responded:
"We're not stuck on stupid," meaning that he had a plan and knew the hell what he was doing and he didn't want to answer any more stupid questions because he had work to do and lives to save.

34. Well maybe he's just a "stupid Bush Sychophant Ass, himself?"
After all...remember Bush "cleansed the military." If Honore still has a job...what does that mean about him? If Bush sent him to NO's what do you think his job is.

Get the trains ready for the death camps.....(well, I'm stretching it a little here...but Honore showed his "true colors" in that Press Conference and it's RED WHITE AND BLUE FOR BUSH!

One wonders why he isn't in Iraq...Maybe he was so incompetent that even Rummy wouldn't send him there. Which would mean he's below the "dregs" of the military.

26. Seems to me General Honore is becoming confused about
the difference between civilians and the military. If he wants to call the military population names, that's his privelege. If he keeps calling the civilian population names, I predict he's going to run into some problems.

32. CNN's Kyra Phillips has been going overboard in an attempt pump him up
to hero status. So what is that tellin' ya?

A week after Kyra asked him "General, do you know what you mean to America?" she was doing a feature story about him greeting his son's return from Iraq.

Remember, this is the same Kyra Phillips who had the nerve to accuse Nancy Pelosi of being unfair when she criticized Brownie and FEMA.
