My anti-Bush Republican friend finally visited DU today
He was amazed, shocked and enlightened, and delighted

He was particularly incensed by the article on the Bush family and the pope.

I think reading DU will be good for him.

In five minutes, he learned almost ten new things.

It's very hard to teach a Republican new things.

He and I agree on almost as many things as we disagree about.

Actually, we disagree on many things of significance.

He's a Republican in favor of gay rights and gay marriage, doesn't like George W, hates Bush senior, hates Al Franken and Michael Moore and Bill O'Reilly.

Anyway, if he signs-up and starts posting, I predict he will be tombstoned before his 100th post. For that reason, I won't encourage him to post here on DU. But you're welcome to post on his message board at http://www.USAexposure.com

2. I've been plaguing his message boards with DU info for months now
He says he gets thousands of visits a month, but I don't know if I should believe him.

There should be a logon/password at http://www.BugMeNot.com

I'll pass that message along, but feel free to rile-up the right-wingers on his board as much as you like.

There's even a guy there who I think wrote a book about why the Mosque in Jerusalem should be destroyed to make way for a new Holy Temple. That guy is particularly fun to torment. You write a couple nasty lines of text, and he spends an hour composing a lengthy diatribe that I never actually read.

I never actually read anything he posts, but sometimes I skim, pick out a single sentence of his, respond back with a one-liner, and watch him go off on another rant.

(Note: In this particular message thread, some people became confused and thought that I was David Grossack, which (thank Gawd!) I am not.

5. See thread: THE BETRAYAL IN WASHINGTON
THE BETRAYAL IN WASHINGTON

<snip>

I am watching what is going on Washington and I instead see a small clique of wealthy and powerful launching economic warfare against the majority of the American people. At a time when Republicans control both the White House and the Congress, what is an opportunity for greatness is being squandered on a program of seemingly mean spirited legislation that caters to special interests.

There have been numerous components to this lost opportunity.

First, is the surrender to the insurance industry. The government is determined to limit class action lawsuits which simply results in the end of access to the courts for people who have been the victims of negligence by large companies. The message being sent is that the Republican party cares more about the bank accounts of large companies than peoples' rights. I am sickened by this kind of policy formulation. It tends to prove that everything the Democrats say about Republicans being the party of the heartless rich is probably true.

Second is the surrender to the credit card industry. These rogues who charge 34% per annum compounded annually have destroyed the lives of millions of people and bankruptcy has been the only salvation and hope they have had for making a new beginning . Chapter 7 straight liquidation has been the only way millions of people could get out from below the oppression of usurious credit card interest rates. With the new limitations and restrictions on Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the banksters will have their hooks on people for ever,. For all the lip service to biblical principles we hear from the Republicans, they forget that bankruptcy laws are biblical in origin, with debts periodically forgiven,. They also conveniently forget Jesus' preaching against lending money at interest, something that might shock the folks at Discover Card and Visas.

Third is the surrender to Health Maintenance Organizations. These outfits make money by charging you for participation in a health plan that they supposedly manage for your benefit. However, if they decide you don't need something, you are on your own in paying for it. People are dying from the capricious decisions made by HMO's, but the government wants to protect them from lawsuits. While Republican leaders want citizens to make sacrifices for the common good, they never ask the corporate aristocracy to be accountable for their bad behavior. How about zero tolerance in all directions ?

10. Would you tell Dave that Ed Shultz
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 07:03 PM by justgamma
and Stephanie Miller are not with AAR. I think he needs to know that Mark Maron is Jewish.

Did you explain PNAC to him? Maybe then he would understand where the neo-cons come from.

Welcome, Dave. :hi:

11. He knows Franken and Maron are Jewish. Schultz and Miller are not AAR
I haven't discussed PNAC with him.

He does admire Randi Rhodes, even though he disagrees with her.

And he's used the word "honest" to describe Franken, despite the other uncharitable things he's said about him.
