Christian Coalition fading fast |
|
Grass-roots religious group now based in S.C. has lost leadership, influence http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/politics/12676171.htmRocked by financial debt, lawsuits and the loss of experienced political leaders, the Christian Coalition has become a pale imitation of its once-powerful self.
Some say the group — now based in Charleston and headed by a South Carolinian — is on life support, having been eclipsed by higher-profile, better-funded groups such as Focus on the Family.
“The coalition as we knew it doesn’t exist,” says Lois Eargle, former chairwoman of the Horry County Christian Coalition...

28. FOTF is "downsizing"... |
|
Fuckin' with the Family is hurting for money. They project that they need 143 Megabucks next year, so they're trimming back in places, mostly staffing...
Maybe Dobson could cut back on new luxury vehicles?

7. Careful. The RW Fundies are far from done. |
|
This one org may have lost support but it just went to another of the same kind. I imagine that local Fundie churches have sucked up all the money in their area starving the larger centralized orgs. (just a guess.)

Focus on the Family. You could be right.
It could be the economy, or they could be victims of their success.

9. Irony in action: the Christian Right is evolving |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 06:31 PM by Azathoth
Unfortunately for us, evolution tends to favor survival of the fittest, and dinosaurs like the Christian Coalition are being replaced by even worse monsters. Groups like Focus on the Family are far more radical, hateful, and effective than the Christian Coalition ever was.

12. "The coalition is looking for a media spokesman |

— someone of Reed’s caliber — to be a talking head on the television news shows and to put the organization back on the map."
Maybe they could hire Brownie now that he's unemployed! If they're looking for someone of Reed's caliber, they'll have to look under a lot of rocks. Reed is a slimeball.

I think it is finally starting to happen. Slowly (maybe very slowly) but I think people are begining to realize that groups like the Christian Coalition are nothing but hate-filled, facist, regressive organizations that do not portray Christian values.
It's time to take a stand. Accept everyone for who they are; do not impose "Christian" values on everyone (aka hate). America is a place of individuality not conformity. Voting Democratic lets you be who you are and remain free from oppression (and the government runs more efficiently, obviously). (This, of course, coming from a gay guy: me!)

Many of the people who support the politics of the Christian Coalition and Focus on the Family also feel it is their biblical obligation to tithe ten percent to their own church. People are not doing well financially in the Bush II era. Given that gas prices are well over two dollars a gallon and other items are increasing in price and people are losing their jobs, perhaps fundies have decided to support their ministries in their hometowns.
There is only so much money to go around. I don't think fundie christianity is a dying breed (supposedly fundie christianity is the fastest growing segment of christianity in the US). They are taking it to the local level. They have all three branches of the government and now they want all of the states.
I will jump for joy when Joyce Meyer is forced to put her tax exempt homes in Jefferson County Missouri up for sale.

Can you believe the way she dresses? She wears the most expensive clothes that come from people sending the money in, and is not a bit ashamed of it either. She prances around the stage with her sparkling ear rings and stiletto heels. She looks like she is dressed for a night on the town sipping cocktails and dancing the night away.I would be SO happy if all those scam artists would go away. The only televangelist I like is Joel Osteen. He is so different from all the rest,he doesn't mix politics with religion and never asks for money. Seems like a great guy to me.

As I look into your eyes, I see a dark spiritual being,
Then in the darkness, your soul Bleeding, writhing, screaming... Hating, fighting, loathing, reject, The hands of death Take your life away... Search for the light At the end of the tunnel Black or white your soul will travel.
Reap what you sow... Reap what you sow... The seeds implanted! Reap what you sow (Sow!) Karmic reality
by the Evil Dead
Guess folk got tired of all that suicide death cult dogma. Thank the Gods. However this does explain the increasing bizarre behavior of the remaining religious wackos. They are getting very strange.

24. Fundamentalist Christianity is eventually going to wane heavily. |
|
This has been somewhat of a cultural fad of an extraordinary nature, but eventually cooler heads will prevail and the pendulum will swing away from unreasoned fervor and the mainline churches will still be humming along while "Charismatic" Christianity will disappear eventually.

25. Not to mention that the liberal Christians have started becoming |
|
a LOT more active, and have been denouncing the fundies. Liberal Christians -- those who actually follow the teachings of Christ, rather than george booosh -- are going to have to keep getting more and more active to straighten out the mess the radical fundies have made of the church.
