Have any two words been more over-used in the last five years? In 0.07 seconds, Google will puke up 2.9 million instances of the phrase. Among them are such jewels as:
"Bush Vows Massive Rebuilding Effort" "Bush Vows Probe Of What Went Wrong" "Bush Vows To Try To Unite Country" "Bush vows 'no compromise' on gay 'marriage' " "Bush vows to reach out to Kerry voters" "Bush Vows To Confront Poverty, Injustice"
And my all-time favorite: "Bush vows to rid the world of 'evil-doers' "
bu$h vows this, bu$hs vows that--and on and on and on, until it all blends into a hypnotic wash of white noise. (And I use that phrase deliberately; our Black Cousins will explain it to you if you need it.)
Jesus Earl Christ (I know, you thought his middle name was Harold)! Has there ever been this much vowing in the history of the United States of America? And have vows ever been emptier? Except the ones about making Dick Cheney and his Reptile Cohorts even richer, I mean?
All this vowing is beginning to vex me! (We now return you to your regularly scheduled pogrom.)
