Military judge bars release of Abu Ghraib photos
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N20370152.htm

FORT HOOD, Texas, Sept 20 (Reuters) - A day before the trial of Lynndie England, the U.S. soldier who held an Iraqi prisoner on a leash at Abu Ghraib prison, a military judge on Tuesday barred the release of photos which have already been published around the world.

At a final pre-trial hearing, Judge Col. James Pohl also expressed skepticism about the central defense argument that England, 22, was overly compliant toward authority figures and could not always make reasoned judgments for herself. snip

Some photos have not been made public. For example, one charge since dropped against England alleged she had been photographed engaging in fellatio with Graner, the abuse ringleader who is serving a ten-year prison sentence and who has since married a woman who pled guilty in the Abu Ghraib scandal.

Pohl's order could however affect what is released under a 2003 lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union to obtain information on the treatment of U.S.-held detainees.

10. the editor discussed them in online chats after the photos broke
he said they made a "representative" selection, and were "discussing" putting out more, possibly online. Apparently not.

search their archives if you're curious, they are sitting on hundreds more.

6. Um... WV is not any more a hotbed of incest than any place else
and marrying your sister or brother or mother is as illegal here as it is everywhere. Please don't perpetuate stereotypes like that. This is a beautiful state with many wonderful people. We're not a bunch of ignorant incestuous rednecks.

And welcome to DU.

8. How horrible must these pictures be?
They are so afraid of letting them be released, they must be as perverse as we have heard. Kinda makes one proud, doesn't it?
