1. Good Luck, Kinky!
Texas is a great place if you didn't have the fascists and drooling sychophants. Plenty of good people live there.

13. Exactly! Just thinking of my
own current state of New York and all the patakislime infiltration.

Yet, I haven't heard too much slamming of New York as a place to live.

2. Sorry but I do live in Texas and this stinks big time for the real, hard
working Dems who are working hard to get the repukes out.

9. he doesn't
So you like his books and music, and find him comic. Lovely. I do too. But I don't like the way he is cozying up to the religious right. I don't like the way he plays ignorant good old boy--we've had enough of those.

17. I'm really shocked to hear he's cozying up to the religious right....
That goes totally against everything I've ever heard from the guy.

10. No, we are running people like Chris Bell who took a stand against

DeLay and redistricting early on. We are not running some joke who is friends with bush and has never done any public service before this. Honestly, I just came from a county Dem meeting last night. We fight and work and have fund raisers and try to make change and then we have silliness like this to contend with. Don't you just love people that have all the answers without doing the work?

11. Well if he doesn't pass muster on issues then be sure to get the word out

I went to the site you posted. I don't see much there for his stands on specific issues. I hope that is forthcoming. I also hope he is pro-election reform, given that he has seen what redistricting sneakiness leads to.

5. I love this part:
Two thousand years ago an innocent man named Jesus Christ, was executed; Kinky’s question is: "What have we learned in two thousand years?"

6. Kinky's not likely to get the bible-thumpin' vote. He once said....
The only problem with Southern Baptists is that they don't hold their heads under water long enough.

12. I heard him say on Imus once
that he favored gay marriage because gay folks had just as much right to be miserable as straight folks.

16. Texas Dems should pay close attention to Kinky
Right now, Chris Bell is our leading Democratic gubernatorial candidate for 2006. (There's one from Fort Worth, too, but he's not getting much traction at the moment.)

Chris Bell, from the little bit I know, is a fighter. He'll take on Tom DeLay and head and hoof the guy with every ounce of strength he's got.

But Kinky Friedman has mastered the all-important art of framing. He has king hell identity recognition in Texas, despite the fact he's not native. But hey, that didn't stop a Connecticut Yankee named George W. Bush, did it?

Kinky is so Texan that he could eat West Texas granite and poop bluebonnets. And if you saw him on Real Time with Bill Maher a few weeks ago, he displayed the precise balance of Texas swagger and Texas sensibility that many Texans hunger for in a candidate - Democratic, Republican, or otherwise.

My best to Chris Bell. I hope his campaign comes out swinging and knocks the Repugs out of Austin. But I wouldn't be adverse to seeing independent governor Kinky Friedman negotiating with a state legislature controlled by Texas Democrats, if you get my meaning.
