Limbo Relied on the Kindness-of-Private-MDs Since His Pilonidal Cyst Days

Claim: Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh was disqualified from the Vietnam-era draft due to a pilonidal cyst.

Status: True. ....

...Limbaugh was ever examined by a physician at an Armed Forces Entrance Examining Station (i.e., he never underwent a pre-induction physical), the 1-Y classification was almost certainly assigned based on a report Limbaugh had his own doctor prepare and submit to his draft board. (No implication that the report was fabricated is intended; the point is merely to note that Limbaugh's deferment was based upon an examination conducted by a private doctor, not one administered by an Armed Services physician.) ....

...Limbaugh provides non-responsive "answers" when queries are posed by quickly steering the focus away from himself and claiming that "the message is that unless you've been a member of the military, you have no right to support it" (which isn't the message at all — the message is about whether it's hypocritical for those who escaped the draft to criticize others who did) but doesn't address the issue of his own draft status in the least. ....

4. Taking the Request Literally...

I would, but it wouldn't fit in the headline space and would compromise the America's-Anchorman dimension of credibility here.

But just the "pilonidal cyst" words in the headline WERE attracting?

6. I also had a pilonidal cyst.....
...though to be fair it occurred AFTER I had completed my military service.Mine (and I believe most) was in the crack of my ass, grew to the size of an egg. It was embarrassing, painful, and having it lanced prior to surgery (sans any form of painkillers) was an episode I'll never forget. That said, I spent 2-3 days in the hospital, missed maybe a week at work, and now have an interesting scar I can show to VERY few people. That said anybody claiming this as an "excuse" from the draft is at LEAST a coward...real minor surgery would have had Ole Rush A-1 in less than a month....But he held on to his cyst just as tightly as his nose does to Bush's ass, and for the same reason-he profits from it...

9. I don't know how often this happened,
but I know my husband had a letter from his doctor dealing with a heart condition he had since birth that he submitted to his draft board. But he also had in his pocket a letter explaining why he felt himself to be a concientious objector. He was willing to go to jail rather than fight in an illegal war. As it so happened, the doctor's letter got him 1-Y status.

10. OK....
...but lard ass's "medical condition" could have been (and probably was a year later) cleared up in under 72 hours. But keeping the condition (and the deferment) were the modus operandi for the year he was eligible????In point of fact ANY competent MD would have advised him of three facts.
1.Minor surgery will cure this.
2.The government cannot force you to have minor surgery.
3.If you have minor surgery you will be A-1.

Rush made his choices and they are COMPLETELY in line with others of his ilk.Your husband had an out which could not BE CORRECTED-a non-choice really and good on him.Rush knew HIS condition and held to it.But a rational being would admit to their choices and attempt to rationalize them-not pretend a glorified zit on their ass denied them their Rambo-esque dreams...

11. I didn't know about the correctability of the condition
when I posted. Thanks for the information! My point was that some who had letters from doctors were willing to stand up against the war if, for some reason, they were declared fit.

Rush, on the other hand, used his letter as an excuse not to fight while supporting a war he was too afraid to take part in.
