And Hurricane season runs all the way through November...
What's going to happen if Rita is Katrina 2.0? What's going to happen if Florida or the Carolina coast also gets destroyed? Will America be able to survive if the whole Southern coast is effectively gone? Even if we DO make it through, how will we ever rebuild everything? Oy, and the worst part is that we have another two months to go!

1. As a Floridian I'd just like to say --
SHUT THE FUCK UP! JESUS!

Your post is just like saying, "Man what if it rains?"
You just know it's gonna start raining any second.
Christ, man, you want all of us to get blown away down here?!

6. Man, I don't know how you do it...
I lived in Miami for about six months. I heard many stories about Andrew and the aftermath. It will NEVER cease to amaze me that people who live in disaster prone areas take these things as a matter of course. It seems to me like the collective response runs along the lines of, "Oh, a hurricane is coming? Nothing new, get the supplies and pack up the car." Wow. That's all I can say. Wow.

On another, more optimistic note, I hope that after Rita, we're done with hurricanes for this year.

2. As another Floridian ...
I'd rather not worry about the next one till it gets here. It's stressful enough already.

7. Floyd was a walk in the park compared to Fran. I don't wish these
on anyone either.

4. Too bad we blew the budget protecting ourselves from Saddam's WMDs,
wasn't it? Maybe Kurt is right:

We're terrible animals. I think that the Earth's immune system is trying to get rid of us, as well it should.

-- Kurt Vonnegut

I'm feeling pretty damn cynical this week, sorry.
