Hey Bush, how many more category 5 hurricanes needed to convince
you that global warming is real? OK even if the Sun is doing most of the warming we should cut back on our contribution to the problem.

2. 20 Cat 5 hurricanes since 1886 until 2005
Since they started tracking hurricanes in 1886 there have only been 22 category 5 hurricanes including Katrina and Rita. Coincidence- I think not.

3. global warming

I don't believe that stuff.
I have plenty of friends that are getting grad. degrees in this stuff and they all pretty much agree that global warming is more myth than fact.
sometimes this stuff (katrina and her ilk) just happen
you can't stop them by banning hummers

7. Depends what you mean

Most experts in climatology and meteorology agree that there is global warming and that it is being affected by human impact on the environment. Most will tell you it's silly to believe that humans can pump tons of gases into the air every hour and not have it affect the air.

If your friends are only arguing that a couple of bad hurricanes don't prove global warming, or that these hurricanes are the result of many factors, and blaming them on global warming is simplistic, then they are in agreement with their future colleagues. If, however, they are denying that global warming exists, they will need backup careers.

Welcome to DU, btw.

8. There is little doubt we are in a warming cycle regardless of its cause.
Whether you say it is human beings or the planet's normal cycles, the fact is that temperatures are on an upward climb.

9. Yikes. So many responses, and so little time to deliver them.

One hurricane season can't prove or disprove global warming. That is no more based on science than Bush's rejection of global warming. If we had five years of low hurricane activity, would it prove that GW wasn't happening?
