9/11, Hurricanes et al punishment from God (fundy encounter)
standing at the checkout line at the grocery store yesterday afternoon..

I'm behind a couple of people who were talking about Hurricane Rita, and Hurricane Katrina

Then one of them says just like 9/11 - the hurricanes are punishment from God for all the sinners... (yadda yadda yadda)

I'm rolling my eyes and let out a big sigh

One of them turns to me and says "Don't you think it's punishment from god for all those queers?"

me: If God wanted to punish a city for 'queers' don't you think he would have hit San Francisco with an earthquake? Or Fire Island or Provincetown with a Hurricane? But to answer your question - yeah, if it's punishment from god then it's for putting a freaking moran in the White House - twice.

"If God was really into punishing people, she's already given us you."

on edit: I'm really sorry that happened to you.

3. Yeah, that makes sense...
God murders the infirm, the elderly, the poor and the children in Texas and Lousiana because he's pissed about queers in DuPont Circle and Castro Street.

Y'know, not only are some people absolutely HATEFUL AND STUPID, but their idea of "God" is not that of any deity I'd want to worship.

6. It's like they forgot that little thing Jesus taught
You know Love. They focus on the vengeful God of the old testament and forget about how Jesus said Love thy neighbor. I've always thought of the people of the old testament as stunted. They listed all the vengeful, spiteful things God did (more likely man did them) but couldn't grasp the concept of a loving God. That's how these crazy religious Christians are today - stunted.

7. When Louisiana voted to ban gay marriage, they got TWO hurricanes...
One hurricane hit LA the day of the election, putting many polling places under water.

When Massachusetts legalized gay marriage, we got two superbowls and the first World Series since 1918.

1918, by the way, is the year Massachusetts made it illegal for inter-racial couples from other states to get married here.

Gawd destroyed a Baptist church, Baptist seminary, and a very large Catholic church during Hurricane Katrina. Those are just the ones I know of.

Gawd destroyed Senator Trent Lott's house.

Gawd is about to destroy Tom DeLay's district in Texas.

Either Gawd hates The Holy Republican Empire, or else Gawd is punishing us for fucking-up the environment and for causing global warming.

12. No, the oil companies still make even MORE money
They use it as an excuse to raise their prices even more than they have to.

Maybe Gawd hates insurance companies?

10. Don't these people read their own effing bibles?
I may not be a Christian but I have read the bible. I've read the entire thing, cover to cover. Here are a few things these ignoramuses have ignored:

1) The most important thing of all. According to their own gospels, Jesus tossed out all the old rules and put in a new rule. Be nice to people, don't judge others, and help those who really need it. We liberals of any or no faith say the same damn thing.

2) In regards to Katrina, Rita, and other storms being punishments for all the sinners existing, these old-testament obsessed idiots forgot an old testament story about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah: God told Lot that if there were enough good people he wouldn't do it. Lot kept bugging God about how many good people it would take to save the city. If I recall correctly, it was some ridiculously low number.

11. I wish the fundies would get a new theme, this one is beginning to...
wear on me. Was that why God was punishing people 500 years ago, 1000 years ago or since civilization began, because hurricanes of course happened then. As far as 9/11 it seems the fundies God must have gone to the other side because the fundies believe the Muslims are godless.
