Because the GOP not only controls the Senate, but also the committee that oversees the nomination hearings?
Sorry to say it, but it's going to take not only the Dems but a few rogue Reps to defeat the nomination. And with the GOP stranglehold on the Senate, I wouldn't expect any miracles.

A filibuster would be good if they would make the case to the public, but they're afraid to make the case. Even without a filibuster, I think some unity would at least be a worthwhile exercises in party politics.
