Out of 6 people in my office (we all listen to Air America here during the day) all 6 agree she is a hinderance to the flow of the program. The women in the office seem to find her particularly annoying and fake. I don't care if she helps write the show (gee whiz, how much writing could there be? the Bush hunta gives them great material everyday!!) she needs to be off the air pronto.

... When you're a neo-con windbag with all your opinions already decided for you. You simply read a news article, and then explain why it means liberals should be sent to death camps. It must be quite a chore, however, for a finder of truth, given the scarcity of truth in modern media. Just separating the useful material from the party-line bullshit is a full-time job.

He's a self-absorbed jerk. His glacial thought processes are okay for a writer, but totally inappropriate for the radio.
Franken has yet to illustrate how he cares for anything but ... Al Franken.
Turned him off months ago, and happier for it.
By the way, I listen to be informed, as well as entertained. Franken does neither.
Lanpher could have a happy life back at NPR, where she is a good fit.

yes, thats right, Al Franken is a "self-absorbed jerk". He also happens to be one of the very few successful forces on the Left appealing to large numbers of people (along with Jon Stewart and Michael Moore)and exposing the Right and their evil deeds. I guess he is "self absorbed" because IT"S HIS DAMNED SHOW WHICH IS NAMED AFTER HIM AND NOT KATHERINE LANPHER. I suppose his "jerk" status is earned through the well deserved barbs and satire aimed squarely at the Repukes. you know, you are part of an elite punditry who also despise Franken: O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, Scarborough, Boortz....you keep great company!

42. I don't need anybody to tell me what to think. |
|
When Franken takes up half of the alotted time for a scheduled guest's interview with a lame "theme song" and commentary about it, I get the picture.
When Al tries to croon Misty when his guest Christy (from the Center for American Progress) is on, and takes up most of her time, I get the picture.
When Al drones on about Social Security for four months, ignoring the Ohio voter fraud and other important issues but repeatedly interrupts knowledgeable guests with his Franken's Donut Hole, obviously so that he, Al Franken, would have to pay no more tax than he does already, I get the picture.
I don't need any right wingers to tell me what to think. I listen and decide for myself. And then I have voted -- and I listen to people I can trust.
Not, oh, what's that guy's name. Oh yeah, Al Franken.
By the way, Kathine's comments are scripted and staged. He wants her to play bad mommy to his "bad boy" character. If you don't like it, tell your hero Al, not us. We, at his invitation, told him what he could do with his ditto-head. He told us to f*** ourselves, that what he wanted was more important.
Try Thom Hartmann -- a man who puts his intelligence to some use other than self-promotion. Warning though: Hartmann is for grown ups.

Ooooh, ouch, for "grownups" ? I guess you mean grownups like you who felt it necessary to respond to my response because your feelings were a little hurt? Here is a little piece of info for you: by his own admission, Franken is a comedian first, political commentator second. He is being humorous when he is perpetrating those escapades you find sooooo annoying and offensive. You may not find it funny but those guests keep coming back on his show and Franken has the MOST LISTENED TO SHOW ON THE LEFT. I have barely heard of Mr. Hartmann, I guess if you are unpopular and serious, you are for grownups....nanny nanny boo boo.... You are still in agreement with most of the Rightwing nutjobs on your opinion of Franken.

Franken has received 4 F'ing Emmy's for his writing on SNL, has his own VERY POPULAR RADIO SHOW, a show on Sundance channel, several BEST SELLING BOOKS... someone besides me thinks he is funny. You cannot deny his success and appeal to many folks. I guess his audience is just made up of "non-grownups". You should just admit your wrong (come on even Bush did it once) and give AL his props for getting out there with radio, t.v. and print and demonstrating that the Left has great ideal, ideals, values and standing up to the Right. I mean come on, he even debated and ridiculed O'Reilly at a book event (he has taken on Hannity and Boortz as well as many others). Your Mr. Hartmann done that? HMMM?

I guess that's why his show is the most successful on Air America huh? ALso, I suppose we should not gauge Al's effectiveness by just how much he gets' under the Right's skin. They seem to pass no opportunity to bad mouth and lie about him. To me, that says old Al is doing something right.

Have you heard Thom's show?? You're right... Al does get under the Right's skin... equal to Hillary in it's furvor... but how does that make him effective?? He has the most recognized name in Liberal radio what does he do?? Lean more to the center (just like Hillary). I've lost respect for Al for his stance on the war (keep fighting it), and his waffling on the '04 election fraud (don't think it happened, even though he advertised for funding the Ohio Democratic Party prior to the election) - when the chips are down, he always takes the safe route out.
PS. I also agree with you that Catherine Lampher's voice and cackle could break glass. I cannot bear to listen to it.

Hey, AL has always said that he is a comedian first, a political pundit second. I think he is effective because he really nails many of the Right's pundits for their lies and falsehoods. He is not a politician. That being said, if you don't like the guy, you just don't like him. I respect that and personal taste is different with everyone.

will that still apply when he runs for Senate?? It seams to me that if he wants to unseat Norm Coleman, he might want to take a more serious stance on his political views. If he is not serious about being a politician, perhaps he should re-think a senate run. That being said, I don't dislike Al Franken... I like some of his books and loved him in "Stewart Smally Saves his Family". But if calling out Right Wing Pundits on their blatant lies is the only criteria you need to base a senate run on... then where can I send a campaign donation for Jon Stewart?

We don't get Air America in the Southland. In fact, the airwaves around here are devoted almost entirely to Country, Rap, Mope Rock, and Jesus.
Interesting story, though... Once, during the G8 summit, Rush Limbaugh inexplicably was replaced by a liberal psychologist call-in show for approximately 30 minutes with no warning, no segue, no explanation. I'm geussing this is the amount of time it took some foreign dignitary to listen to the station, and then declare, "Why, I don't understand! This isn't hate speech at all! perhaps there is some truth to this 'liberal media' thing!" before going off about his business. We poor folk aren't allowed on Sea Island anyway. Not THESE days.

I used Jesse Jackson as an example that I thought even you could understand that your choice of words was rediculous. Somehow you took that to mean that if you don't like the co host of Al Franken's show that you are a racist?
Perhaps you think that women are a different race from you...that would imply a level of ignorance that defies description.
