Why would Bush and his minions be giving a terrorism speech today? |
|
Of all days? I mean WTF. Millions of displaced Americans running for their lives not knowing whats going to happen to them and their communities and this dick starts blubbering about what a great job he is doing fighting terra? I never heard of such shit. The Dem's should be all over the Republicans for pulling shit like this when everyone is already on pins and needles about Rita bearing down. If they don't say anything about this kind of crap it means they are in on the scam. What else is there to think?

1. They only have one product to sell. |

Fear of terra. Without that, you might as well have voted for the other guy. Oh, right. We DID vote for the other guy. :puke:

10. Aaron Sorkin strikes again: |
|
"I've known Bob Rumson for years. And I've been operating under the assumption that the reason Bob devotes so much time and energy to shouting at the rain was that he simply didn't get it. Well I was wrong. Bob's problem isn't that he doesn't get it. Bob's problem is that he can't sell it!
"We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things, and two things only: making you afraid of it, and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle age, middle class, middle income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family, and American values and character, and you wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism. You tell them she's to blame for their lot in life. And you go on television and you call her a whore."
The American President - 1995

3. It was really pathetic |

Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 01:01 PM by Armstead
They obviously thought trotting out all of their big guns on stage and filling us in on the optimistic briefings by the military would work its' old magic.
But I think it'll be roundly ignored by most, and all but the hard-core freepers will see it as pathetic.
It was sorta like Jaws 6. An failed attempt to milk a once-successful formula with way too many repetitious sequals.

4. Probably their last chance before Rita/DC Protests |
|
They have to look focused on Rita over the next two days so this is the last chance they have to deflect the protests with a dose of terror before Sat.

5. What else could he give a speech about? The stock market? |
|
Oil prices? Good paying manufacturing jobs? Stem Cell research? Global Warming? Education? WMD in Iraq? Social Security reform?
May as well stick to something that he can scare stupid people with and get a bullshit headline or two.

6. Because they have to get focus off of this country and the disasters |

we face here, to get us to "lock and load" on Iran. Or Syria. Or whatever country is next in the PNAC playbook.

7. Not sure terrorism is a wise topic |
|
right now, considering I was just reading in USA Today that grants for first responders may be on the budget chopping block due to the incredibly poor management (I'll be the first MBA/CEO president!)by the Bush admnistration. Katrina is depleting what little is left...so, even the free spending (tax cuts for the rich!) Bushies are having to look somewhere for cash. And, first responders are on the list. So. Maybe talking up the terrorism angle while cutting the means to deal with attacks is not such a wise choice.

Or maybe to divert attention from Rita in case she flattens Houston?
