Is it just me or does the turn northward of Rita |
Look like it's on a beeline now toward New Orleans?

3. when there is a well defined eye, and the huge NW outflow |
any little jog in the track makes it look like that. Its going more west than north. Its the hurricane force winds on either side of the eye that cause the most damage

5. I've been hesitant to weigh in on this, but it IS starting to look like... |
... it's making the turn to the N sooner than expected.
I wouldn't say a beeline for N.O., but I'd bet money it's going to make landfall somewhere close to Lafayette/St. Charles.

6. I don't think the eye will get too close to NO... |
but the further east the storm veers, NO will get worse from the worse side of the storm.
