I don't think I can ever trust a Republican again.... |
|
And I'm usually a very trusting person. However, look at the mess they have gotten us into. No use to tippytoe around it. Republican voters have us in this mess. And if I were them, I would not want to take responsibility either. Look at the people that have died. They cannot wash their hands of what is going on in this country. We are responsible for our actions, even if that action is a simple vote. Just because they are gullible or naive does not excuse their guilt. How do you feel about Republicans today as opposed to only five years ago?

You must have known what republican ideology was/is?
That has never changed and never will...Republican ideology has always been based on greed. And government's only purpose is for the corporations and the military. The use of the military for corporate imperialism...Republicans have never been there for the workers or the middle class, republicans have never believed government should ever be there for the people.
Republican ideology has ALWAYS been, that people should fend for themselves, without any help from government (no Social Security, unemployment insurance, no minimum wage no health care, etc)...However, it's fine for government to assist and hand out huge corporate subsidies, (corporate welfare)!

The thing to also remember is that the Republican Party, the real powers behind it, don't give a shit about abortion, affirmative action, gay marriage, etc.
They use these issues (quite successfully) to split working folks away from the Democratic Party. How else to you get a single mom in a double wide to vote Republican when the Democratic party is so obviously better for her? Tell her its what Jesus wants.

18. Seriously, ArkDem. You ought to read a history book about it... |
|
...written before the turn of the century. You would be amazed how many contemporary historians refused to idolize Lincoln. These were bright guys, by no means confederate sympathizers, but serious contemporary scholars with both the resources and the personal memories of events to draw on.
They paint quite a different picture of the man than that found in modern history texts, and quite a different picture of the civil war.

I just finished a book put out by some League of South idiot(Thomas Woods)who essentially rewrites history from the founding up until now.

40. This describes the Reagan/post-Reagan Repukes |
|
but once upon a time there were honest, decent Republicans like Ford, Eisenhower, Hugh Scott, Bob Michel, Everett Dirksen and Nelson Rockefeller. In those days, Repubs didn't equate disagreement with treason. I've always been a left-wing Dem, but I do remember the days of bipartisanship on many issues and that once there were rational, humane Repubs. Their party left them.

Sadly I feel the same as you, I will never ever in my life ever again vote Republican, I'll vote for a Libertarian if I have to avoid voting for a Republican ever again, I refuse to ever trust them to be in the driver's seat of ANYTHING that affects the nation or even whatever city I happen to live in.

The evidence is all around us that the republican party has royally mucked up our country. And so it's time for all people with any conscience remaining to quit that party.

I see this thread and I think, wth? I VOTED BUSH. I am so flipping angry and have been. It's all nice that you can look down at me with your moral superiority, but I THINK WHAT IS GOING ON IS WRONG. Why would you alienate any of us that are opening our eyes? If shit is going to change, we have GOT to come together for the common good. This just drips of the same feelings that cause rasism and classism - you would hang me because I believed it was for the good. I DO NOT THINK SO ANY LONGER. I am flipping depressed and hope with all of my heart that others are opening their eyes. I come here, not because I'm 100% democrat who has "seen god (or whomever)" and been "born again." I'm not going to debate my beliefs with you, because that is not what is going on at this moment.
At this moment we have ... him in office, we have his people making money off of dead people, we have people dying and losing everything. Will it stop? NOOOOOOO... They are insuring these people (and I say it with no inflection in my voice) will be brought so low that they cannot come out of it. There is no protection for them. I pay taxes with the idea it, in the end will protect me if something horrible happens.
At this moment I am not believing in Dems vs. Reps - I AM BELIEVING IN HUMANITY.
I come here for information that I don't have access to via t.v. news. I thank you for it. But please refrain from fracturing us further.

Many of us have been shouting for years for the media to open its eyes to the truth about how the Bushes and their cronies profit from governance while doing the actual business of governance poorly and ineptly.
A little of that backlash is sometimes directed at those who believed the media spin about these frauds.
You are right, that tempers shouldn't flare up at such a crucial time, but we are mere humans...imperfect...and have been angry for a long time. Personally, I've been furious with BushInc since I learned the facts about BCCI.

So, for those of us who have seen this, and have been *awake* for a long time and have been ridiculed and called losers and traitors and worse for years because we have taken up the cause for EVEN people like you......for HUMANITY........well, we're pissed! I see. Good luck to you, and I'm sure what falls out will continue to divide and no one will see what the real issues are, because they will be defending themselves from this. I understand it, because I feel it. I'm glad that you could take the time to tell me off.
I will still march tomarrow, but I think we will still be divided, and I do not think that we can come together as a cohesive group and make changes when you cannot let it go, and embrace those of us (and there are more of me then you think and are not accounting for) and come together for a plan.
I will be there tomarrow with my buddy who's homepage is drudge.com. Feel free to spit on us, and shame us into going back to the company line. That *is* what you are doing right?
Think it out, and get rid of your prejudices. Things can change.

Im glad that you finally do......but this is Democratic Underground....you think YOU'RE feeling the wrath of people who think they're superior here? LOL! That's rich........stick around awhile...in fact, wait and see what kind of reception you get from other Repubs while you're at the march. We've been treated like shit by our own families and have lost friends we have had for 20+ years and it's been the SUPERIOR attitude of the right.........not the peaceful left! But I for one and tired of being so nice all the time and embracing.....Im angry. Understand....Im not telling you off, just trying to let you know that there is a valid reason why people on this thread are saying the things they are.

You may call me/us whatever you would like. Others can surely join you. It's for a good cause, and it will certainly help getting the corruption and murderers out of the WH.

Maybe we should say nothing about those that have voted us into this mess? And why did they vote for Bush and the Republicans? They believed the Swift Boat people? They thought Bush was more moral? They thought he was a better leader in time of war? They were "tricked" by the Republican propagandists? For whatever reason, we are where we are. And we should not be critical because that will only "fracture" more the divide between the people? Perhaps you are right?
