A parking lot of people running out of gas. I wonder if the media and the Bush admin turkeys will be as negative as they were with Blanco and Nagin?

1. No one could have predicted
that they'd run out of gas.

:sarcasm:

12. haha
yeah, I can just hear the excuses now!!

These guys don't have much of an imagination, do they?

They couldn't imagine guys flying planes into buildings, they couldn't imagine levees breaking and now they couldn't imagine millions of people running out of gas.

2. this has amazing potential...
to be a wildly dangerous situation... Stranded on a highway and riding out the storm in your car with kids/pets/no bathrooms...hmmm...how's the blame game gonna play on this one??

and pushing them instead and going just as fast as those that are running. Governor of Texas said he was sending out gas trucks along major highways to help those stranded.

5. Where was the GAS!?!?!?!
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 03:58 PM by skids
An OIL State's governor with our our OIL President's backing and the full support of our OIL adminstration couldn't forsee an evacuation GAS SHORTAGE?!?!?!

All we need now is an arial shot of a ruptured oil container at a refinery to flood around a line of empty-tanked abandoned cars. They don't even have to be school busses.

:eyes:

WHERE WAS THE GAS?!?!?!

7. Is there any projection on when/if/how this traffic jam is going to
open up? Are these folks sitting ducks? I'm not being flip, I'm just wondering what is being done.

10. A lot of promises...
About trucks full of fuel. I wouldn't hold my breath.

This is inexcusable after NOLA. For chrissakes, those southbound lanes should have been open this morning.

All we can hope is that they get far enough away from the storm by tomorrow morning, and don't run out of gas in the meantime.

9. I notice the smug tone has all but disappeared
At first, I had dectected an attitude of "we'll show ya how it's SUPPOSED to be done".

Now I just wish they would get some police to help with the traffic issues. They need a copter in the air to find and resolve the problems so the people can get out of harm's way.

Cafferty is looking to be fired I think - he's incredulous in his sarcastic reports...and reading only scathing emails about Bush...

19. Also heard that over 100 TSA officials didn't show up for work at the
airport. Guess who shook their heads about the NO police deserting?

15. Louisiana has a "contra-flow" evacuation plan
They learned from past experience. From all indications, this evacuation plan worked well. It's something that has been only rarely reported.

17. Galveston evacuation was good. Houston evacuation is a mess.
Galveston is only 60,000 people and they really understand evacuation, believe me. That island cleared pretty quickly.

Houston is 5 million or so, which means all sorts of massive logisitcal problems - namely way over road capacity and not enough fuel for everyone at once.
