1. He probably wasn't happy seeing the LBJ comparison this AM.
Having Bush* compared to Johnson circa 1967 - not a good thing.

2. they are arrogant
and, they are not geniuses. But, they're not stupid, either. However, they know they have a large majority of the media in their pocket and can crank up the slime virtually on command.

3. I think he lives for poll numbers...
So, I think this does have to be keeping him up at night (well, this and the kidney stones  )

In the 2000 election, Rove was able to cite the percentage changes in Dem-to-Rep voters for every county throughout the South. Think about that for a second.

OK, now that you;ve thought about that, you've got to realize that this guy spends his life knee-deep in poll numbers. I think they mean a lot to him. And I think this is driving him up a wall. Yeah, he's arrogant. But I think his cocky assurance in himself makes this all the more frustrating.

4. If he's confident, it's because he knows the Democrats won't ...

... fill the void that Bush has left. Rove is a smart man - no matter how bad the Republicans screw up, the Democrats will always be there, dutifully keeping their heads up their asses until Rove can rebuild the base support.

Step One: War on Porn!

Edit: For crappy grammar.

6. I hope so
I hope he's so arrogantly sure of his ability to lead the press and public around by the nose, to manage reality perception and rewrite history, that it'll be a total shock to him when his arrogance comes back to bite him. Because his arrogance comes from contempt. Not for the Bush skeptics and detractors, he merely hates us for not playing along. I think he reserves his lowest opinions for Bush's supporters and enablers, the ones who are so easy to fool. The more they trust, and buy into the manufactured bullshit lies, and keep coming back for more, the more contemptuous he is of them for how easily he can manipulate them. I don't think Bush knows he is a flim-flam man, (when he wore the flight suit he hadn't the sense to be embarrassed, maybe he even thought he was a military hero) but Karl has to know he is, and he despises the ones who fall for his con.
