Why won't the Democrats touch the gun-grabbing issue in NO? |
|
yea I know broadly speaking much much much much worse things are happening, but seriously THIS was an issue that repukes used against Gore, not to mention I don't care how anti-gun you are stripping law abiding citizens of legally owned firearms of which they had permits for IS AGAINST THE LAW not against the Constitution technically speaking but I have no doubt that LA had state laws regarding when it is and it is not okay to do this.
NOT TO MENTION the fact that hired mercs got to keep their M-16's??
Just one damn statement and then you could let the issue go away but seriously not one Democratic could just glance and say "this is wrong where is the NRA? we need to stop this this is a complete violation of private property rights they are tresspassing on their homes even to perform this act for Chrissake"
This is a major Republican type wedge issue that could benefit to the Democrat's gain but no one has touched it....
oh well I'm willing to let it go so long as they start pushing harder against the Iraq War and the bush blunders concerning Katrina and the soon to be Rita.

Why not ask the question? Why not get some of the pro-gun votes?
I'd like to win a couple houses of Congress in 2006!

3. Gov. Blanco should have immediately ordered the NO police chief to stop |
|
confiscating firearms.
Every citizen in Louisiana between 17 and 64, with some exceptions, are members of the states unorganized militia. Governor Blanco has authority to use them in a state of emergency and she could have done that until she was able to restore law and order.

4. Maybe the real question is why haven't the Republicans? |
|
Hell, it took the NRA a week to ask for a restraining order. And the NRA never had a problem getting their mugs on TV when Dems were in charge--where are they now? Thought they were bragging about having "an office in the White House" when Chimpy stole the election. The only thing that the NRA exists for is to keep on existing. Yet another group that played "conservatives" for fools.
Does this mean Charlton Heston is cold and dead?

5. why don't you check Louisiana law |
|
and check back with us.
It would be silly for a state not to give its police the right to confiscate weaponry in a state of emergency or when there is evidence for a conspiracy to commit violent crime.
And you're one of the crowd who isn't clear on the concept of what a 'well-regulated militia' is. Here's a hint: the mythology, despite endless repetition, is wrong.
As for the bottomless danger to Democrats- if you hadn't heard, the NRA net loses members every year, mostly to...dying. And if people haven't fall for the 'gun grabber' appeal to sociopathy and anarchy at this point, after 15 years of the witless Right pressing it, they probably aren't going to.

IT'S AGAINST THE LAW not against the Constitution technically speaking but I have no doubt that LA had state laws regarding when it is and it is not okay to do this.
See that's called an acknowledgement that I understand the 2nd amendment is NOT what makes gun ownership legal.
Here's a hint: I'm a civil libertarian. We do not use nor have ever used, in fact we advocate NOT using the 2nd amendment to promote the right of gun ownership.
I personally look to state laws regarding the matter of individual firearm rights and ownership
Technically speaking however, if a large group of them formed a "well regulated militia" and were used by the governor well technically THAT situation could fall under the blanket of the 2nd amendment. .
Secondly, so the state of Lousiana does not allow law abiding citizens to own weapons in their own homes? This is what I am pointing to.
By the way the state of Lousiana in fact allows law abiding citizens to purchase rifles, shotguns, and handguns WITHOUT a permit even. Permits are only required to carry concealed. There is no justification to confiscate firearms in a person's home under any circumstances.
Okay so it's a state of emergency fine. Therefore, the solution is to confiscate legally owned firearms from a person's home, but rich people who hire fully automatic weapon toting mercs can keep their private armies armed to the teeth?
THAT IS WRONG no matter how ignorant a view you have on firearms.
Now maybe if they outright said "Give us your guns when the shit is no longer hitting the fan you may have them back" that's something I would find far more reasonable of an implementation especially if gun related deaths had occurred, but what is correctly happening is unacceptable.
