Curious. Cheney, Rumsfeld & Myers brief Bush on "national policy issues" >
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 12:09 AM by Stephanie

This is creeping me out.

This photo provided by the Department of Defense shows President Bush, left, as he receives a briefing on national policy issues from Vice President Dick Cheney, foreground, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, center, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers, U.S. Air Force, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at the Pentagon. Bush spoke to reporters after receiving a briefing at the Pentagon on the U.S. war effort. The President also urged people to follow evacuation instructions as Hurricane Rita heads toward the Gulf Coast of Texas. (AP Photo/Department of Defense, Tech. Sgt. Kevin J. Gruenwald, U.S. Air Force)

1. It is creepy. And remember, they've militarized
New Orleans.

Defense has the organization. We're a hair's breadth away from being Guatemala.

3. Why are they briefing him on "national policy"?
What does that mean? I wouldn't think twice if it were military policy. Foreign policy would make a little bit of sense. But national policy? What does that mean?

4. I don't know. But that barrier between the military and the
civilian powers has been blurred just enough to allow the occupation of one of our major ports.

My grandfather went up through the ranks in El Salvador and eventually garnered a good deal of political power. I see nothing different in the way this outfit conducts its business.

5. Are we supposed to find this reassuring?
The military is morphing into the elected government and vis-a-versa. Do they really even need to declare martial law, or is it already here?

This is the public face, as several more strands of military government are coming together. Yesterday, Bush extended his post-9/11 State of National Emergency and a major military exercise simulating the imposition of martial law commenced in Washington, sending special forces and military intelligence officers into the streets of the capitol. 6. Isn't Myer's daughter to head up the NOLA /Katrina investigation? Or was
I dreaming? Hopefully, it is just a nightmare, and I'll wake up soon...
