If there is a mass arrest in DC (advice) |
|
The police tactic will be to grab individual protesters from behind. There will be two cops for each protester. one on each arm. They will escort you to a bus. Get on the bus. It will be guarded by a singular(and very scared) new police recruit.
About sixty detainees will be on the bus with you(work together).
All buses have escape routes built in. Use this to your advantage.
On each window on the bus is printed instructions to get out of the bus in an emergency."IN CASE OF EMERGENCY,KICK OUT WINDOW AT BOTTOM" This means to lay back on the seat and kick the window as hard as you can. The window will then be open(hinged at the top but open on the bottom). Time to escape and get back to the protest.
When the protest folks start jumping from the windows. the doors will most likely open also. If that doesn't happen automaticly....just ask the bus driver to "open it please"..the drivers will be hires that understand your plight.
Best wishes to you all.

1. But, try to do it with your hands bound behind you. |
|
This isn't a Cool Hand Luke movie. Good luck in your escape attempt.
Sounds like a way to get the charges escalated from a $50 fine to a felony. Think about the consequences of resisting arrest, attempted escape, destroying gov't property, etc. before you do them.

So be willing to end this war.....whatever it takes.

3. I totally disagree with this tactic |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 01:40 AM by Autumn Colors
To cause something like this will give the cops and RW'ers fodder to say there were "riots" and that the cops were justified in making the arrests.
The best thing is to be totally peaceful and just making your views known. Show that the arrests are UNWARRANTED by NOT being violent. You know the other side will try to spin this to their advantage. Don't give them any material to use in the process.
If there were more time, I'd suggest that everyone rent and watch the movie "Gandhi" before this weekend....

14. Read what Orwell had to say about Gandhiji's tactics |
|
He pointed out that it only worked because it was the Brits in charge, not the Nazis.
And Alinsky pointed out, using Gandhiji's own writings, that nonviolent passive resistance was a tactic, not a principled act: they had no firearms, and the people had been made so passive that they couldn't even be whipped into action.
I don't say this to condemn nonviolence, but to point out that it's not an all-purpose remedy.

23. Unfortunately, violence does have its place |
|
It could be argued that John Brown and his nineteen-man army did more to end slavery than the 30-year "moral persuasion" efforts of the pacifistic abolitionists.
"Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition" isn't really as crazy as I once thought.

what happens with Rita. You bet your life that they will use this as an excuse to hammer our side.
BTW, the resisting arrest and escaping part is BAD advice, both from a legal and a practical perspective. I know your heart, and courage is in the right place, though.

I suggested escaping so it would not even be on a police record.( They put you on the bus and arrest you at the destination)

16. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NAME |
|
When they get you down to central booking with all the others, nobody NOBODY give their name. Use the bureaucracy against them. They can't book you or anyone else if no one gives their name. I have known many, mmany people who have done this en masse, and every time, the whole group gets released. If they can't book you, they can't keep you.

Good advice but I don't think they'd have a problem in this day and age putting 100 John and Jane Does in a cage. BTW If I happen to find you in the crowds can I have an interview? B-) I'll have a Big Pretty PRESS badge and everything.

30. Couldn't they just make you turn over your wallet? |
|
Wouldn't you have to surrender your wallet, watch, etc when they put you in jail? They'd only have to look at your license or your ATM card to find out your name.

19. Are you saying DC cops won't notice people running away from the |
|
bus in handcuffs? NYC cops tend to notice such things.
Also, it is quite a drop to street level with your hands cuffed behind your back. Likely, many people are not in shape to jump out a bus window with their hands tied behind their backs.

in mass arrests they don't bind you with the wire tie thing. Just to many to bind.

24. Buy and hide somewhere you can reach with bound hands |
|
one of those little envelope-slitters that are a razor blade in a protective plastic frame. You've seen them, they have a little plastic pointy bit that you stick into the corner of the envelope so that the blade can then slit it open.
Then, if they manacle you with nylon wire ties, which is the usual, sneakily get out the envelope slitter and you're all halfway free.

What are you trying to do, give the feds an excuse to say the demonstrators are an armed mob? Think of how the MSM is going to handle that.

29. Better go barefoot, then. And leave your belt at home. |
|
Make sure any sign you carry can't give some cop a paper cut.
Better yet--just stay home. In the kitchen, with your hands in plain sight on the table.
