RAW STORY: REEPS CALL FOR HUGE CUTS IN EVERYTHING GOOD & DECENT!
Is America about to die a death of 1000 cuts?
Incredible, the choices they make... this has to be seen to be believed.

House Republican Study Committee document recommends huge cuts

John Byrne

An internal Republican Study Committee document which is now available online and was simultaneously leaked to RAW STORY Thursday outlines an array of huge cuts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, including the elimination of funding for Amtrak and the National Endowment for the Arts. The document was first reported on by Roll Call.
(snip)

RAW STORY has analyzed the pages and presented some of the more specific cuts. At this stage, these are cuts proposed by the Committee, which is composed of 86 House Republicans.

Personally, at this point I'm convinced... these fuckers EAT money.

1. 5 billion over 5 years for the Defense Dept and DHS?
Most of that in restricting grants to first responders. It doesn't seem like the Pentagon is being asked to share in this effort of sacrifice much.

Medicare recipients to feel $40 billion in cuts in the first year alone.

Keep feeding the war machine boys...

21. DOD and DHS is where the BFEE and their friends are plugged in!
Follow the money! How 'bout that Haliburton stock?:sarcasm: Carlyle has their fingers in just about every defense pie in this country.

What did the Mongol hordes have in common with the BFEE?
Rape, punder, pillaging and killing.
_____________

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

"We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

"Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society's future, we -- you and I, and our government -- must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.

The Avalon Project : Military-Industrial Complex Speech, Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

2. Typical repukes, thousands die because of their lack of competence and
in the resulting disaster, they try to wipe out all the projects they don't like. No use even pretending to investigate themselves, nothing is going to change. Thousands will die in this hurricane too, only Rove will be there to keep the corporate media in line, then the repukes will cut the minimum wage.

4. I know, this is truly disgusting information...
It's just... jesus, it's just so fucking wrong, the things they propose... Bush can't be fired cuz he IS Donald Trump, and the reeps are ALL Gordon Geckos, only without the charm or good looks...

And America is being broken up and sold for scrap.

I hope the DC protest makes some difference...
We'll NEVER make it thru four more years of this.

3. I don't know they EAT the stuff, but I sure know the LOVE the stuff.
Maybe they need all the $$$ to afford oil-based products (which is pretty much everything you can touch in today's society) after *'s wars degenerate into WW III.

Or perhaps they'll need wheel barrels of the stuff to afford a loaf of bread after our economy collapses from irresponsible fiscal policies.

Or maybe they'll need the bucks to build isolated communities in hopes of avoiding the upcoming bird-flu pandemic.

But then again, they could just be evil, greedy assholes.

Dunno.

The Neocons want:

Old people - you are a burden on society, you need to lay down and die like good Patriots

Sick people - you are a burden on society, you need to lay down and die like good Patriots

Poor people - you are a burden on society, you need to lay down and die like good Patriots

Ethnic people - you are a burden on society, you need to lay down and die like good Patriots

Alternative energy - we don't want it, we want our oil rich friends to get richer until the last drop is gone, then screw you all, so quityerbitchin

Federal employees - we eventually are going to privatize anyway, so when do you want to lose your benefits? Now, when you have some time, or later?

Clean air - too bad

National parks -we want our rich friends to log in them and get richer, so again, quityerbitchin

Civilization - you need to go ahead and regress since we do not need art and culture, I mean, since we already have language skills now, what is the point?

Public information - not necessary

And finally, the biggest hypocritical slap in the face I have ever seen to the people who perform the bulk of the work during any disaster:

From Frumpy Pretzel Boy's promise to First Responders:

"Housing Will Be Provided In The Short Term For First Responders And Workers. Mobile homes, trailers, and more ships will be brought into New Orleans to provide housing for the first responders and the service workers who are rebuilding this city." http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/hurricane/

To:

Restrict First-Responder Grants to Large, At-Risk Communities $630 Million annually (and it then goes on to paint the entire first responder community with the broad brush of fraud and abuse...you firefighters better know that since the IAPFF endorsed Kerry, this is PAYBACK now . . . you small departments who were using this to buy EQ so you could even serve your residents, feggedaboutit, there will be no more help to you, it will all go to NY or LA now)

13. While all the cuts are nauseating, the eliminiation of
Safe and Drug Free Schools grants are just despicable and could very well mean the bankruptcy of my company. And to assume that our schools are safe and drug-free... you must be on some drug.

On a positive note, I spoke with a Senator's aide yesterday and he stated that there isn't much support for the proposals.

kick and rec'd.. hope others do the same.

17. Defense is all that will be left of government under the repuke plan
The United States federal government will consist of defense, government run state and local police forces, and a property rights court system. That's it. The rest will be up to states to provide. Trickle down country. :grr:

25. A lotta people here have responded by saying "Big surprise, huh?"
I know, most are just joking and saying it sarcastically...
But please understand: I'm NOT surprised either...
In point of fact, for the first 3 years of this hideous millennium, I wrote a weekly column for an alt-newsweekly in Duluth, MN... the column was titled, prophetically enough, Millions Are Horrified!!!
I started writing the column when Butch first stepped up to run for office; this unhappy news filled me with such a profound terror and loathing that it moved me to immmediate action...
I put up my site,
President Evil Online
at the beginning of this year; on its many pages you will find some of the most ferocious and unforgiving and venomous and vitriolic social and political parody, cleared-eyed analysis and criticism of this administration, which I viewed, quite properly and on an almost primitive instinctual level, as the darkest, scariest threat to the future of mankind we've ever seen in our long history...

These guys make the Black Plague look like a pleasant alternative.

I'm NOT surprised. I'm HORRIFIED... which is why I do the site I do.
I've been totally horrified for the last 5 years... and I hope more and more are becoming more like me. And I hope this moves them to positive action.

As long as we're still alive, it's NOT too late. Where there is life, there is ALWAYS hope.

We are living in extraordinarily dark times.
But we can STILL change things; and we MUST.

Take heart, fellow DUers. They're just monsters...
We just have to figure out how to fight 'em effectively, and DO it.

WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

Don't you people watch monster movies??? :eyes:

ps: since I was bragging, here is an example of some of the most ferocious and unforgiving and venomous and vitriolic social and political parody you will likely find ANYWHERE on the net:

Tasty Tasty Cheney!

If you know of anything comparably dark and daring, please enlighten me...
Sometimes I think I'm trying desperately to open peoples' eyes...
And sometimes I think I just calls 'em as I sees 'em.

26. Please let this be true
Now, before you all take my head off...

Please let this be true that the Repukes will actually propose all of this. If they are this incredibly tone deaf they will be swept out of office in 2006.

The mood had changed in this country. Poll after poll show that the American people favor increasing taxes to help pay for Katrina rather than slashing government services.

Please let the Repukes slash their own wrists with a proposal like this.
