FREEPER IRONY: Remember their fear of foreign troops in US?
Back in the 90s, the militia movement and even the mainstream of the right was worried about foreign troops being on US soil or US troops having to take orders from foreign generals. I don't think there was a serious possibility of the first being done without our permission and for our own purposes, and the second is only done so our allies feel like less of a junior partner.

Now in New Orleans, the extreme free market equivalent has come true. Armed foreign mercenaries have been hired to protect the wealthy and patrol the streets.

The difference between these foreign thugs and the ones the righties used to fear was that soldiers of governments are subject to the restraints of the Geneva Convention, military discipline, and they would be answerable to some democratic government somewhere. Mercenaries are only accountable to whoever cuts the check, and if they get trigger happy, they can just be shipped to another country to guard another gated community from the people the rich left to fend for themselves.

But I guess the right won't care until they hear about a foreign mercenary killing a guy with a mullet and a tin of Skoal Bandit in his back pocket who looks just like them.

Take your pick of stories to verify this one:

4. Yeah, it's like all the right-wing conspiracies are coming true.
I won't be surprised if the alien overlords from Orion show up next.
