Logged on to verify...CNN reported that 25 people from Houston died in a
bus which caught fire? Is this true? Did anyone else hear it? I heard it about 30 minutes ago on CNN, and nothing else since. I heard that 25 people from Bellaire Texas were boarded on a bus to flee Houston and the bus caught fire, and all aboard perished?!? So sad, if true. I know friends in Bellaire.

1. Bus was carrying elderly, and assumption is O2 caught fire.

7. O2 does not "catch fire". It does cause things to burn, however. SASP

4. Don't know ALL the details, but...
a bus caught fire near Wilmer (SE of Dallas off I-45 coming in from Houston).

Supposedly, there was a fire with the brakes, and because of the older folks on the bus, there were oxygen tanks aboard, and they caught fire/exploded.

Very sad news.

Associated Press

DALLAS — A bus bound for Dallas exploded early Friday on Interstate 45 in Wilmer, Texas, killing at least 24 mostly elderly nursing home patients being evacuated from Houston as Hurricane Rita approached.

WFAA-TV
The bus was carrying hurricane evacuees.

Thirteen others were injured and taken to area hospitals, most of them to Parkland Memorial Hospital’s burn unit, said Capt. Jesse Garcia of Dallas Fire Rescue.

"It caught fire and pulled over, and it was just difficult to get all these cases out," Capt. Garcia said. "We were literally dragging them out."

The bus was headed north on Interstate 45 when a witness who said he had been driving for 20 hours in the jam-packed I-45 corridor said he saw it pass his car with smoke pouring out of the rear of the

12. Yep. They're not kidding when they tell folks on Oxygen tanks (often due
to emphysema) not to smoke!
