Freepers are just completely evil...
I wanted to check out what the wingnuts at "free republic" were saying about the homeless left in and around Houston before Rita hits and OH MY GOD what a bunch of cruel, heartless bastards!!! They were saying things like: Why don't the reporters help the homeless when they interview them, "it's the homeless folks own fault for not getting out", "who cares about them anyway", "they are all drug addicts" (ya' mean like Limbaugh?!!) or "drunks" (like Bush??!!), basically making fun of the homeless and blaming them and the "mainstream media" for them being left behind. Also, according to the genius' at "free republic", liberals are the primary reason there are homeless to begin with. Look, I run a program here in Georgia which assists homeless individuals and families and I can tell you, many, many homeless folks suffer from mental illness (23-27% nationwide) and are completely unable to care for themselves. Many with mental illness self medicate with drugs and alcohol and yes, many others on the streets have substance abuse problems but, don't they deserve the dignity of some type of shelter/assistance with this approaching storm???!!!! Where is this "compassionate conservatism' we have heard about for all these years??? This really pisses me off!!!!!

2. Who cares what they say? They're really inferior specimens with no
intellect or integrity, so why would anyone go 'there' and bother with them?

12.  Just morbid curiosity I guess...
I think I have some compulsive need to stay fired up at these people on a daily basis. I know it may be a character fault of mine but it also helps me stay on top of their nonsense, "know your enemy" and all that...This particular episode just really got under my skin because I am so passionate about homelessness issues and advocacy.

3. They are fundamentally insecure.
They are afraid of the idea that anyone can be a victim, so they pretend that victims are somehow at fault and that they could have avoided making the same mistake and, therefore, avoided being a victim. I suspect many of them suffered as children and are afraid of loosing what security they now have.

4. yes they are
ppl left homeless by katrina are not the normal homeless crowd, they are not mentally ill, i know several ppl left homeless by this storm, none of them w. any mental illness

many fine homes were destroyed not just slums, i am not aware that storms make a point of only targeting & destroying the homes of the "useless eaters," one man i know who lost his home has a business employing 50 ppl, another whose home is currently uninhabitable employs abt 10 ppl

no storm gives a shit whether you are mentally healthy or not, they don't check w. a shrink before tearing up yr house

8. Ignore the little troglodytes. Better yet, imagine them being slapped.
Slapped for every minute of their pathetic, mommy's basement-dwelling lives. They're not worth your time or aggravation. Truly.

Oh, and welcome to DU!

9. This proves that the Christan Right is neither
So much for what Jesus believed in - helping the poor, compassion, empathy, peace, etc. I am convinced that there is a special place in hell for these hypocrites. They are the opposite of what Jesus preached but yet want to claim him for their own. Do not get too worked up about the Freepers. At least they tell you what the right wingers really believe. I live in Georgia as well. Keep up the good work.

10. welcome to DU
and you are right.

these idiots have hijacked a perfectly good country and sent it on the road to hell.

Reminds me of a dailykos diary from a few days ago of an American living in Japan and his impressions in coming back to the US after several years. The change he witnessed was staggering. Changes in so many corners. He spoke of the militarization, the polarization, the selfishness, the greed...

It all started with Ronnie....

13. Fuck em
Them neocons are stupid. They can't think for themself and just repeat Pill Limbaugh talking points, like a fucking teddy ruxpin.

Most of them are stupid because the few things they read is Guns and Ammo, which is the modern day equoilent of a caveman reading "sticks and rocks' on the wall of a cave.

I hate to say it, but if a hurricane does attack, alteast its attacking the very people who put bush in office twice.

15. Father Reagan wanted all of our mentally ill out on the streets.
I'm not suggesting that certain practices of institutionalizing mentally ill populations were above reproach and should have been left intact. But wasn't it Reagan who pushed to close down many of the agencies of last resort?

And the thing about freepers is that they believe homeless people and drug addicts all have character deficits...UNLESS it's one of their own. Then, it's just an unfortunate situation in which a GOOD person finds him- or herself.

As for the compassionate conservative meme, you never actually believed that, did you?

By the way, welcome to DU. :hi:

16. Good points...
Your right about Reagan, he and his administration DID contribute to underfunding and de-funding mental institutions (and there were many which were operated for the benefit of the patients, with very modern facilities, good staff, doctors etc...). These were the only options for many who would otherwise be wandering the streets without meds or other therapy. And no, of course I never bought the "compassionate conservative" b.s., I just like throwing it back in their faces (those freepers who troll D.U.

18. Re: the compassionate conservative meme, I hear you, as they say.
Most of us around here are "smarter than the average bear." You'll fit in nicely. One question: is the "fufkt" in your forum name an acronym for something?

:hi:

19. Re: "fufkt"
The "fufkt" was supposed to be "fukt" but due to my extremely poor typing skills I added an "f" and now I can't change it back. I cringe whenever I read it but each day, it gets a little easier to bare (unlike the day-to-day with the Bush junta).

20. Back in the day
I was a teenaged single mother in Atlanta. My daughter and I were lucky and it worked out very well for us in the end -

BUT I have to say that if a catastrophe like Hurricane Katrina had threatened us back then, we would most likely have perished. I was a young woman with a small child, neither a drunk nor a drug addict, a college student with a part-time (and low paying) job. What we were, at the time, was poor. If a natural - or man-made - disaster had occurred, we'd have been toast because we wouldn't have had enough money to leave the city, nor would we have had anywhere to go if we did.

It makes me incredibly angry that the wingers are making it seem that the casualties of Hurricane Katrina somehow deserved it because they were too lazy to leave.

Everyone's story is different, but what they have in common is no one deserved to die.
