1. He has been showing signs of it for years now. |

He lied to us about everything else, why not about his sobriety?

I think he was freaking out about the Enron collapse and was cracking under the strain when Dick or Laura let him have it. To be fair, though, I'd say he was probably most of the way through a quart of Beam when he got decked.
The timing was just too obvious: he was panicking and simply couldn't deal.

I've maintained that that was always a story designed to appeal to the conversion narrative crowd while it shuts off any discussion of his wild ways: all behind him and forgiven.
Believe me, every slime ball and taliborniagain I know in Texas LOVES that story. Loves itl.

3. I'm suspicious of the story's timing myself. |
|
I've no doubt that * is a multi-substance abuser, and that he probably is abusing this stuff while on psychotropic medication (VERY dangerous).
But what if it was placed to gain him sympathy with a certain crowd?

4. sure and to innoculate him if the story is released another way |
|
which is my belief why it is out there in the first place. But, with a "certain crowd" (amongst whom I live!) all he needs to do is repent and its ok

If he were ever to fall off the wagon during his presidency, now would be the time. Katrina, Iraq, Social Security reform doa, Plame coming up, sky high gas prices getting higher this winter (heating oil, natural gas).
Yep, now's the time to do it.

7. Why shouldn't he be? Drinking is up in the U.S. overall |
|
since January 2001. After all, if he's driven the rest of us to drink, why shouldn't he get to join in the party?

10. Watch the video of todays press conference |
|
It pretty much removed any doubt that I might have had. Which was none to be honest but, well, there's a link in GD, just watch it and see what you think. He sure seemed pretty drunk to me.

11. It's the hypocrisy, but the Repugs are bound to muddy the issue. |
|
It's not the drinking per se, it's that Bush sold himself to us as someone who found sobriety through Jesus. That is why all other sins were supposed to be forgiven.
Bush promised sobriety as an act of religious faith. He has broken that promise. The bible thumpers ought to be up in arms about this.
