Fight at the gas pump tonight. People are going NUTS! |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 06:43 PM by Blue_Roses
I was sitting in line waiting for the cheapest gas on the block, BEFORE they hiked the prices up. There was this one car that kept holding the pump in front of me for about 2 of 3 of his friends. No one could get to that pump. All of a sudden this guy who was waiting about three cars back burst out of nowhere and almost rammed his car into this guy's car who was doing this. I was next in line so I'm thinking, great, here I am with my two kids watching this and HOPING it doesn't escalate into more. Good grief. I've never seen the state of affairs in this country in the crapper like they are now. It's beyond ridiculous. It's becoming just plain NUTS!
People are at the end of their ropes and when Bush's name is mentioned at the pumps, it ain't pretty.
These are some scary times.

There were no lines at Harrison or Compton, but both of those places are in the far north of the state.

Come down to Arkadelphia, things are a git better here. Not as many people, at least. I have not noticed lines or problems with the local stations, at least not yet. I am going out in a few minutes to get cat food and will take a look around some more. This afternoon, though, when I left campus, there wasn't much happening.

But oh my god MOLLY'S.
Sorry about your gas situation. It does sound crazy, and maybe time to just stay home for a popcorn and movie weekend.

26. Stickers on the gas pumps |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 07:57 PM by cami715
Someone suggested a week or so ago that it would be fun to print sheets of stickers that say "You can blame George Bush for these high gas prices" and stick them on the gas pumps.

11. And these are the good old days. Rationing hasn't started yet. |
|
Right now we're using inventory, but when that's gone, what's left of the refineries still on line will have to prioritize their output and distribute it in order of need to areas they don't usually serve.
I remember gas rationing in the 70s, with an odd-even system in which people would get only so many gallons on alternate days depending on whether their license plates ended in an odd or even number. Some went from gas station to gas station to fill up, but it was often futile because lines were long and the station might run dry before you got to the front of the line--burning gas waiting for a few gallons more.
I don't remember home heating oil or natural gas being rationed, though, so who knows how that will work. Not looking forward to it.

12. there is a rumor going around here (northeast texas) |
|
that when this gas is gone...there won't be anymore. There is almost a frenetic sense at the pumps. Every station in our town has had lines all day. The rumor surfaced last night and was said to happen last night, but it didn't. I'm just kinda sitting back and watching.

20. I remember back in '73 |
|
I worked on the Mass Pike. The station stayed open until it had sold 3,000 gals. Everybody was limited to 3 gals unless you were a medical doctor or nurse, those folks could get a full tank. Every night I would walk to the entranceway to the rest area and put out the red flag signifying we were closed for gas sales and every morning I walked out and put out a green flag and tried to avoid getting run over by the line of cars speeding in to the pumps. Man those were some long nights. Sinse we weren't selling gas we cleaned up the station, did inventory and cleaned the bathrooms next door at the HoJos. To think we may be going back to that crap.

Things are pretty calm here, in the heart of Dallas. I passed two gas stations today that were fine. Although I hear that many gas stations are out in the 'burbs.
They have bigger gas tanks up there and they drive more than we do. :P

18. I had a couple of "Christians" cut line after Katrina |
|
in Pensacola.
I was next in line to fill up. The woman in front of me pumped and pumped and pumped for at least 10 minutes. I asked her if the pump was working, and she said "yes" - then kept on pumping for another 5 minutes (which was WAY wrong).
All of a sudden, she starts jumping and waving. A large V8 pickup pulls up next to her. A woman jumped out of the truck with two 10 gallon gas cans and starts to fill them.
She was wearing a t-shit covered in "scripture".
I told her "that's real christian thing your doing there"...
She blurted out "What's this got to do with Jesus??"
I said "Did Jesus cut the fucking gas line lady???"
no response after that.
The attendant eventually chased them off before they got to fill up their cans.
As they were leaving, they shouted "Jesus loves you!!!" and cracked up laughing at me.
I figured out afterward, that the 1st Xian called her friend and faked "filling up" until she got there.
luckily, I am mild mannered...

Jesus would never cut into a gas line. He would have just turned water into gasoline (and the high octane stuff at that) and made everyone happy.

27. Fights at the gas pumps are only the beginning. Wait until... |
|
the supermarkets begin running out of food as the national transportation system collapses. Betrayed as usual by our politicians -- whores for the highest bidders (in this instance Big Oil and Big Automotive) -- we are the only industrial nation on the planet without an adequate rail system. With barely minimal freight service, we are forced into ruinous dependence on trucks (just as private citizens -- deliberately denied adequate public transport -- are forced into ruinously expensive dependence on privately owned automobiles). Without fuel, cars and trucks can't run. Without trucks, there's no way to get food to the supermarkets -- and what food is available will skyrocket in price, just like the petroleum.
While no one who is sane doubts the hurricanes are (global-warming) accidents, everyone who is sane should recognize the Bush Administration policies that multiply the post-disaster burden on the poor are deliberate and methodical. New Orleans now, all of America tomorrow: genocide by neglect, economic cleansing -- Conservatism's "final solution" to the poverty problem.
