Bush's Spoiled TX Rita Photo-Op - What Did Karl Have Planned? >>>
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 06:53 PM by Stephanie

The WH thought they had one more shot at that megaphone moment.
They must have have had big plans for the TX Rita photo-op. What were they?
____________________________________________

They plan everything. Well sometimes they screw up on the details.

____________________________________________

Was George going to stand before a camera in the wind, just like
Anderson Cooper? It's not really his forte.

____________________________________________

What costume was he going to wear? The sleeves-rolled-up work shirt?
A FEMA outfit? Something military?

____________________________________________

And what about the backdrop? I'm wondering what Scott Sforza dreamed
up this time. My favorites are the ones that try to pass themselves
off as somebody else's backdrop.

____________________________________________

George must be very disappointed. Now he doesn't get to prance around
TX in the pre-hurricane. He has to sit at a desk with the grown-ups
and try not to look bored.

____________________________________________

Which is hard for him.

____________________________________________

I wonder if he will stay up late with these hurricane people at
Northcom?

____________________________________________

Or do you think he will he go to bed early, as usual?

4. Some humor in the heartbreak Rita may inflict.
The Sorry Ass and Rover pick the wrong state to trot out the new and improved "caring and on top of things" pResident. Texas would have been a perfect setting. They all love him - plenty lining up to participate in a love fest. All the Agencies and local disaster groups on their toes. And close to Crawford, just in case he gets "thirsty."

But as cruel fate would have it - the storm switches to that "bad state" of Louisiana. "NOOOO don't want to go there ! Then I would be identified with the last storm I didn't give a shit about."

On the bright side, maybe he could console I-45 road rage victims that had to drive one mile per hour.

6. I wonder what changed their plans -
Was it because they knew that if they did impede operations, which they inevitably would, that the press was going to REPORT it this time?

12. They announced that blivet** was going to Texas pre-Rita, then
David Gregory asked him if he wouldn't just be in the way if he went. blivet** spun around with the look of a zombie, focused on Savid, then remembered himself and tried to yuck it up by saying that he would NOT allow his entourage to get in the way. Two hours later, they announced that he wasn't going because he didn't want to slow them down as they moved to a different location as the storm was shifting. David handed him his hat on this one.

20. I mean why did they cancel yesterday's TX photo-op?
Every time they went to LA for photo-ops they impeded rescue efforts. I think they knew it would be reported this time.

He is ducking the power line. Of course he ducks lower than everyone else, the Coward. And he hasn't figured out that there is no power.

23. funny, then just sad
It is hilarious but then I get disgusted seeing that pathetic little coward, the COMMANDER IN CHIEF IN THE FIELD, shrinking down between the Governors with his only thought to obviously save his own sorry little ass.

I can imagine the chimp at NorthCom over-night peeking out from under the table.

16. He's going to Texas today, actually.
Unless David Gregory tells him not to!

But seriously, I believe I heard on CNN that he's going there today.

Which is infuriating--he's playing catch up and "pretend I care" when we all remember how much of a fuckup he was three weeks ago. He really thinks we're as stupid as he is!

29. The ANSWER! It was too SUNNY on Saturday to get a good photo-op!

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 23 - President Bush was supposed to land here on Friday afternoon on the first stop of a tour intended to make clear that he was personally overseeing the federal government's preparations for Hurricane Rita's landfall. But the weather did not cooperate.

It was too sunny.

***

But clearly someone at the White House reconsidered the President's impact. When Mr. McClellan announced that the president had scrapped his trip, he said that with the search-and-rescue team preparing to move with the storm, "we didn't want to slow that down."

Another White House official involved in preparing Mr. Bush's way noted that with the sun shining so brightly in San Antonio, the images of Mr. Bush from here might not have made it clear to viewers that he was dealing with an approaching storm.

30. Bush planned to come to Houston before the storm...
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 03:24 PM by Bridget Burke
To check on "preparations." But that trip was canceled.

Perhaps his handlers were afraid that Mayor White would ask a difficult question. Or make a disrespectful comment.
