Is being left being less?
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 06:58 PM by Loge23
Do people on the left think of themselves (ourselves) as less than qualified for promotions when interviewing with perceived rightists?
I am thinking of two very intelligent women that I know when I ask this question. Both are well-educated, highly opinionated, and capable. Both are trained medical professionals.
One is very aggressive, the other less so.
But both of these women have passed up promotions, quit lifetime jobs, or walked away from opportunities.
I’m thinking that they feel somewhat inferior because off their background, because of their beliefs, because of their position on political issues.
It’s just a theory, bit both of these women are brilliant conversationalists and are domestically successful in every way.
What do you think?

1. I think they probably saw strings attached
that they weren't prepared to live with.

2. I don't think having leftist political beliefs affects them at all.
Other than probably having an all-consuming hatred for the current politos in power, and a strong distaste for heirarchal systems in general. But I'm just speculatin'.

3. Perhaps they don't feel that the promotions...
...jobs, or opportunities were really what they appeared to be?

I know a lot of people who gave up very successful careers because they realized they weren't happy. I know a few families where the mother or father chose to stay home with kids, even though it meant extreme financial hardship - it was worth it to them and they made it work.

I have several friends in IT who were offered management jobs, and they turned them down. They didn't want to stress, the extra time lost with families that was part of the equation in the positions.

Maybe lefties don't see financial or career ladder advancement as important? It's a good question!
