MSM using Rita to quash out other important news stories? |
|
There's a lot going on today such as the protest in DC, and more news about prisoner abuse in Iraq, but these stories are getting little or no coverage. Who else thinks the media is using Rita to drown everything else out?
IMO, this storm does not deserve the same coverage as Katrina. To be honest, I've seen severe thunderstorms here in the midwest cause just about as much damage as Rita.

1. Not to sound like some hating bigot or anything to the people of Texas... |
|
...but I also agree. This has gotten way bad.

3. I am in Texas and I agree--Rita is "over" as a story |
|
that needs complete minute by minute coverage. The worst damage seems to be far outside the urban/beach settings the news people prefer---they are flogging it now for no reason.
And no it isn't "anti Texas" except to those hyper sensitive souls who believe that anything less than "rah rah" is "anti" (which, in my opinion is a very Bush*ian position...)

4. Rita.24-7. It makes no sense that there are no other stories to cover. |
|
There is so much of the same, you have to wonder why.

5. No they feel that Rita is a bigger story and that is all. |
|
If you don't like it, call MSNBC, et al and POLITELY tell them how important you think this protest is, etc.

7. Typical Media Over-Reach |
|
Their best coverage of a big event is always the next one.
The networks got caught flat-footed in Katrina. They thought hurricane stories were supposed to be fun thrill-shows. Lots of rain, wind...a sign falling apart here, Geraldo getting blown down there. But once the storm passed, so did the story. Katria changed that.
Personally, I think the Rita coverage is more important than what's going on in DC. They're still reaching areas that were isolated by the storm and providing fresh information.
This storm won't get the same coverage as Katrina as long as the death tolls and damage remain low. Katrina wasn't as much a natural disaster as a human one. The tragedy wasn't how much damage the storm did, but the poor response in its wake. Let's see how this one plays out.
