DC Police Chief Ramsey says probably 100K protesters
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 05:44 PM by DemsUnited
Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey, noting that organizers had hoped to draw 100,000 people, said, "I think they probably hit that."

On Edit: DC police don't try to estimate crowd size anymore because they always get grief. If Police Chief Ramsey is agreeing with 100K, it's probably because that's a very safe minimum guess.

Another tidbit about Ramsey, when asked today on local tv/radio if he expected any trouble he said "absolutely not. Just a bunch of folks exercising their first amendment rights. That's what it's all about."

6. I agree. He's a good guy
His statement was obvious. The crowd was huge and he confirmed that. He's not about to go out on a limb with an estimate.

And for its worth, it was the Park Police, not the DC Police who used to do the estimating. (There are probably 20 separate police departments in the plantation known as Washington, DC.)

7. Yep...you remember!! Quite right!!!!
That was such a bullshit brouhahah!! The park police, the Cap police, the DC police...hell, the only police that didn't show up was that Eighties group called the Plice!!!!

I just found that whole MILMANMARCH estimating thing so absurd, as I suspect you do as well. Why couldn't the expression (shades of WOODSTOCK) "There's a whole lotta people here..." suffice?

Everyone tried to play the NUMBERS game--shit, traffic was shut down, workers were told to stay home, METRO was jammed, you could not get a cab...yeah, there WAS a whole lotta people there!!!!

But hey, they try like hell to denigrate...it is their way.
