We just (15 minutes ago) had a 3.5 earthquake here east of Bakersfield, CA
It was the second one today right under our feet.

Yesterday there was a 4.9 about 50 miles from here.

20. 3.2 on the Hayward...
Don't know why, but I was awake and standing up (pee run?) and then it hit - my husband grunted at me to stop kicking the bed, then recognized that the popping/cracking sound might just be coming from the house itself, and not a really bad case of stiff joints on my part............we live right beside the fault, so the quakes don't roll us, they give us a jolt like a car running into the house.

5. As long as nobody is hurt, Mountainman, I'll --
-- put on Carole King's "I Fell the Earth Move" and consume a very cold beer in your honor.

Hang in there.

6. The small Rolling ones are fun! And a good thing, they prevent bigger
Quakes by relieving pressure a little at a time.

It's when you don't have small quakes for years at a time, that you need to get nervous.

7. Could it be another Trifecta for Pissy Face?
You know FEMA's three biggest worries: 1. New Orleans hit by cat 4/5 hurricane, 2. Terrorist attack. 3. Huge earthquake in CA.

15. I was thinking Dwight Yokum ....
Streets of Bakersfield

I've done a thousand miles of thumbin'
I've worn blisters on my heels
Trying to find me something better
On the streets of Bakersfield

You don't know me but you don't like me
You say you care less how I feel
But how many of you that sit and judge me
Have ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?

19. You saw the Stones IN Bakersfield? Wow, how cool is that?
I may have to pull out my old vinyl record to hear that song now.

Far Away Eyes

(m. jagger/k. richards)

I was driving home early sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, you know you always have the
Lord by your side

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you jesus, thank you lord

I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she’d be off
She’d be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes

So if you’re down on your luck
And you can’t harmonize
Find a girl with far away
And if you’re downright disgusted
And life ain’t worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

Well the preacher kept right on saying that all I had to do was send
Ten dollars to the church of the sacred bleeding heart of jesus
Located somewhere in los angeles, california
And next week they’d say my prayer on the radio
And all my dreams would come true
So I did, the next week, I got a prayer with a girl
Well, you know what kind of eyes she got

So if you’re down on your luck
I know you all sympathize
Find a girl with far away eyes
And if you’re downright disgusted
And life ain’t worth a dime
Get a girl with far away eyes

14. Better to have a lot of frequent small earthquakes
rather than a few big ones. That's perhaps the best you can hope for when you live near tectonic plate boundary such as that area (so I gather from my current Physical Geology 101 course!).
