3. there have always been social conservatives and the frenzy
just goes in cycles in reaction to any perceived "threats" to "traditional" society and culture. They have been whipped up into a frenzy for the past thirty years in their "defense" against the lastest manifestations of "social liberalism." This frenzy has certainly become deafening in the last ten years and is being whipped up/manipulated by opportunistic politicians and political strategists on the right to provide "populist" support for their anti-people agendas.
