"counter-protesters" on local news tonight |
|
waving flags on an overpass, blathering about how they support freedom (versus the pro peace protestors that are against freedom?). gem from a Cheney lookalike, the protests remind him "of the way some of the soldiers were treated when they came back from Vietnam. Boy, it really makes my blood boil."
Pardon me? Was he seeing the same protests I was seeing? It seems to me that the pro peace crowds have much more respect for the soldiers than the morans waving their damn flags. and people treat returning soldiers much much better than the gov't has, kicking them while they're down, basically.
what an ignoramus! guess it doesn't matter that many troops agree with the pro peace protestors and would come home if given a choice. then again he the freeper bunch on the overpass is under the illusion that the soldiers are fighting for freedom. who's freedom, or freedom from what, who knows? they sure don't.

I don't mind that they show the "counter" protests, but they spent more time on those folks than they did on us, and we had the bigger numbers! Grf!
And I'm with you -- if the "pro troop" people think the troops are fighting for "freedom", just whose freedom are they talking about? Like I've said before, their message seems to be "They're fighting for your freedom, so sit down and shut up!"
These folks are to weird for words! :silly:

and they didn't have any quotes from the pro peace people. definite slant to the reporting. plus didn't mention how many people marched, wonder why? I flipped thru the other channels but didn't see anything about the protests, or else they were really short segments.
edit to add that I totally agree that their protest has a right to be heard, too, just seems that the news crew made sure they were heard more. and that inflammatory quote! to insinuate that I, and you, and all the other kind hearts we were with today, disrespect the soldiers is so ignorant and insulting.

4. What channel were you watching? |
|
We tuned into KING 5. Usually watch KOMO 4 so we can catch Ken Schram, but a football game was on 4. Had to wait almost to the end of the broadcast to see the report.

Even though it is about horrible crimes, I still find it to be a great escape from the "real" reality of life today.

5. The soldiers on the way back from World War I.... |
|
When WWI soldiers went to Washington DC in 1932 to lobby for their benefits to be distributed to them earlier, the army was called out and began shooting at the veterans. Of course, this sort of thing doesn't go into US classroom history books.
The Republicans spent all of last year spitting on a soldier who came back from Vietnam. He came back from the war and began working to bring troops home, as so many did. Many troops in Vietnam began to refuse to fight, which was one of the major reasons the war ended. Troops who the government used to dump Agent Orange on, before denying it. The corporations control almost all the television channels though, which does help them in their quest to rewrite history.

7. The media has been brow-beaten |

into kowtowing to the whiny Republicans who are under the deluded notion that life is "fair and balanced;" not ironically Faux News is the furthest from that lofty ideal. They have threatened and made good on stomping their feet and holding their breath until they are acknowledged, and will bury the networks with mail and threats and boycotts until they get their way. IMO since they are behaving like 2-year-olds, they should be disciplined like 2-year-olds, with time-outs and a firm hand. No mercy.
